How medieval are your medieval(-ish) fantasy games?

I have run games using all of these elements, but never all at once. How medieval I make the world often depends on the genre and what types of adventures and stories I want to have in the game. Like Stormonu I try to keep the world internally consistent. But realism will always be dropped in...

The good old times (in settings). Or?

Steampunk? In most steampunk stuff I've seen now is awesome! Flying machines, steam engine galore, victorian fashion, increase literacy. Iron Heroes, which Monte Cook published but was designed by Mike Mearls, is a "First Age" game. There are no ancient lands. The world is young and new. There...

    Games In A Museum?

I like Radiating Gnome's analogy to music compositions. I think table top games, of many different types, could be in museums. A history of board game development in various countries could easily exist along side some video game displays in a museum. They are a part of our culture, and to...

    Good "dark" adventures

Are you looking for printed adventures or adventure ideas? I don't have any printed adventures. But for inspiration: the Black Company books by Glen Cook. If you play Magic, setting a game in the Innistrad setting before Avacyn gets free and instantly fixes everything (terrible deus ex...

Writer's Block! Looking for help with story for an Eberron Campaign!

You could have the Keyblade be a scepter or something the Drow use for the ruling group. They would be resistant to giving it up since it would remove their symbol of authority. You could easily have a side quest just to secure passage to Xen'drik where the captain has some debts to pay and the...

Writer's Block! Looking for help with story for an Eberron Campaign!

I'll come back to this later, when I can highlight and read it. But right now, your font is really hard to read using the Legacy skin for the forum.

Looking for a system: Post apocalyptic low power fantasy

Please, differ away! I have no experience with BRP, only what I have heard at that store. If that information is biased, the OP is much better off knowing it.

Looking for a system: Post apocalyptic low power fantasy

I suggest Savage Worlds, because it is just plain awesome. I have heard a lot of great stuff about Basic Role playing by Chaosium. A semi-local game store owner swears by it. The system is supposed to be pretty easy to adjust to a specific genre and power level. What about FATE? The new FATE...

Looking for adventure/plot ideas for a single player assassin.

I don't know much about Dishonored and the Hitman games, but in Assassin's Creed one of the important parts (for the character) is actually scoping out the target. Learn his routines, his friends, his enemies, and his secrets. Having contacts/available NPCs (such as a local street gang) to pay...

    Playing With Fear

Great timing! I normally put little thought into character's fears. Until my current Dresden Files game, where I am playing a cowardly demon summoner (he's a focused practitioner for anyone familiar with the system). His trouble (and it comes up a lot with the stuff we keep running into) is...

    The Thrills of Skills

My favorite skill system is in Burning Wheel. There are a lot of skills in the book. Each race even has some different ones. The system uses dice-pools which can allow other skills to act as a Field of Related Knowledge (FoRK). I like skills functioning as the "What my character is notably...

    Points of Darkness

Hmm... I got into D&D late (I first played a game of D&D at a 4e demo and a short game right before college) but I hated how much gear there was in the 3.5 games I played in college. I felt like it was "required" to have certain items that I found boring (like all the items of +N). I started...

    Points of Darkness

Can you elaborate a bit more on this point? I have never played in a pre-3e game. Awesome, Eberron is my favorite WotC published setting. I don't care for some of the stuff at high levels, but I don't really like high level D&D, so I am a bit biased in opinion.

    Points of Darkness

This seems to work better in a modern game where people have forgotten that things go bump in the night. The World of Darkness books do this, the Dresden Files has most of the world unaware of magic and monsters, the Hellboy films (I can't comment on the comics, I haven't read them yet) have...

How Do You Prefer To Buy Your RPG Products?

I agree. I will pay more from a physical store because I want to help keep a space for gamers to congregate. But, if that space is hostile or somewhere I don't want to be, I will take my business elsewhere. I don't think it is too difficult for game stores to maintain good customer service, but...

Pathfinder 1E Rogue with ranged weapon and standing from prone

I wouldn't count it as movement, so the rogue is allowed to make a full attack. I wouldn't even mess with the rogue too much- have some shoot at him (penalty to hit for him being prone) and maybe a few enemies try to close to melee. But the player found a cool interaction for his character. Let...

The Gamer's Journey. How did you get to be where you are today as a gamer?

I started with 4e. Well, really I started role playing when I was little and played with my brother in our back yard acting out the coolest scenes from Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Power Rangers, and anything else that caught our fancy. I learned to play Magic around 8-9 and how to actually play...

    Desperately seeking...

A lot of the Conan setting is inspired (loosely) by Africa. Kislev from the Warhammer Fantasy setting is based on Russia with Poland and Lithuania mixed in too. I don't know anything for India and some quick googling has left me with nothing.

How Do You Prefer To Buy Your RPG Products?

I prefer to buy in a brick-and-mortar store. However, that is getting increasingly more difficult. I try to check nearby stores first, it was much easier at college, hopefully when I start grad school there are some good stores nearby. My area is a game store dead zone.

Vehicles, Steeds, and Bears -oh my! (fragile vehicles and powerful PCs mix poorly)

I think this is really the best way to handle the situation.
