D&D Archetypes that are missing from the core books?

i think that all of these suggestions can be constructed from the base classes, npc classes, and prestige classes: battlemage -- eldritch knight (doesn't have full bab or spellcasting for balance reasons). assassin -- rogue. duelist -- rogue, fighter with weapon finesse, or multiclassed...

    Your dream DM

    1. monte cook 2. andy collins 3. i dunno  honorable mention: gary gygax. i'm not sure i'd want to actually play in his game, because my guess is that i would die early and often, and gary would laugh and continue to be cruel :( messy

    do clerics work as tanks?

allo can a pure cleric (no multiclassing), in the absence of a fighter-type, make an effective tank? what about a multiclassed cleric for whom spellcasting is a strength (such as cleric/monk/sacred fist)? it works for durkon (order of the stick), but i'd like to know if anyone has seen it...

    Immortality/Fountain of Youth spell

i think it's a way of limiting the level of power that PCs can reach. if a PC can live forever (or a very long time), it gives that character years and years to keep adventuring and leveling up. eventually, the character could conceivably surpass the levels of the most powerful beings in the...

    Paladins - likes and dislikes?

like- "knight in shining armor" concept aura of courage challenge of assigning ablity scores, since most are useful dislike- disease immunity. make them immune to ALL diseases, magical or not (this goes for monks also). cure disease x/week is too hard to keep track of. just make it 1/day with...

    Counterspelling -- Does It Work?

i did it a number of times with a wizard... once or twice by casting the exact spell, numerous times by casting dispel magic (and getting a good roll on the caster level check). counterspelling rocks  messy

    Druids - Likes and Dislikes?

like- spontaneous casting- makes sense and gives druids some flexibility wild shape (but see below) mix of offensive, defensive, and utility spells flavor dislike- wild shape (and polymorph, polymorph any object, etc.) needs to be fixed once and for all so that it's balanced and makes...

    Half-elves........why no one chooses them?

i once played a 1/2 elf because i didn't want to play an elf ;) being a 1/2 elf didn't make her weak. being multiclassed DID make her weak ;) messy

Arcane Disciple - this can't be right!

so, if bob the sorcerer has a 16 wisdom and takes arcane disciple (healing), when he reaches level 12, he could cast CLW, CMW, CSW, CCW, Mass CLW, and Heal once each per day? this seems pretty powerful for a class that is not supposed to be able to heal. messy :)

Arcane Disciple - this can't be right!

ahhh... now i see. thank you, caliban  still, it doesn't seem right to give sorcerers and wizards access to healing... i thought this was a big no-no in terms of class balance  messy
