    Selling Magic Items

I imagine that it is virtually impossible to sell magic items that do not have a strong enough aura. For a merchant or wizard's guild to put the item on the market, they need to analyze dweomer on the item. At a minimum this cost 1,500 gp + the caster's fee. No merchant (or guild) would take...

    Tumbling Through a Line

Howdy. If a row of men are blocking your passage and you decide to get passed them by tumbling, does it work as follows: Roll your Tumble check. - Result >= 25, you pass through unharmed. - 15 >= Result < 25, you draw an AoO from the foe you tumble through. - Result < 15, you draw an AoO from...

    Full Defense and Tumble

Howdy. I'm new to having a tumbling character. From my understanding, tumbling can be used in place of the move portion of your action (i.e., it isn't a standard action). Full defense is a standard action. You can still move your movement (e.g., 30 ft.). To me it seems that if you want to...

Full Attack Action and Fight Defensively

Actually, PHB pg 127 under Total Defense states that "...defend yourself and move during a round as a standard action." It is not a full round action. Total Defense gives you a +4 AC but you cannot attack. This is a great tactic for getting by someone when you expect to draw an AoO. PHB pg...

Full Attack Action and Fight Defensively

Howdy. According to the PHB, if you have multiple attacks, you can decide to take the full attack action after you see the result of your first attack. To fight defensively, you must use the full attack action. Does this imply that if I attack at +6/+1 I can make a normal melee attack at +6...

    Automatic Failures/Successes

Howdy. We got in a bit of a discussion about automatic failure/successes on die rolls. Most of us said that attacks and saves are subject to automatics while skills are not. Attack rolls and skill rolls are automatically pointed out in the rules. However, we could not find the specifics of...

    Cleric Archers?

I had a cleric archer play in my campaign. He made quite the archer, actually. However, the party suffered when someone was injured or fallen. The cleric would have to spend one or more rounds making his way to the injured/downed to heal them. After the healing, he had to try to move out of...

    Can you Really kill someone?

While it is easy to bring someone back, don't dismiss that most people probably do not want to come back. The afterlife may be more than they enjoy in life. This is probably more true with the good-axis beings A king, for example, may be tired of all the deceit and politics, but would never...

Cost of armor that can change shape with you

Doesn't magical armor resize to fit its wearer anyway? Do you want the armor to be seen (e.g., that dragon has full plate covering all of his hide and is visible to the players)? /ds

Quick (heh heh) question about Quickdraw

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Quick (heh heh) question about Quickdraw I'm afraid that since they aren't from a published source, my DM won't let me take any of them.

    A few basic rules questions...

There's an example, I believe, in one of the books that talks about Lidda meeting someone in an ally. They both delay their actions waiting until someone else goes, to see how they react. Would something like this apply? The orcs and humans met, initiative was determined, and then it is just...

    (Yet another) Paladin behaviour question

I cannot remember where I read it, but Paladins can ambush foes (a "deception", if you will). They are good warriors and should have sound tactics. This was a different sort of ambush, just not the kind that happens on an inviting shortcut through the forest. /ds

Combatants as Cover & Ref Saves

Would BDFH be hit? If the wizard cast a 10-ft. wide lightning bolt, 1/2 the square to the left of ACEG would be hit, ACEG would be fully hit, and 1/2 the square of BDFH would be hit. This assumes, of course, the blasts it totally vertical. (I forget, off-hand, how much of the square must be...

Combatants as Cover & Ref Saves

So if someone is hiding behind a tree that is 4 ft. 11 in. wide and you fire a lightning bolt which is 5 ft. wide, the line of effect exists and, for the purpose of the spell, passes through thereby hitting the creature behind the tree? I know it is contrived, but that is what it sounded...

Combatants as Cover & Ref Saves

Hah! I had never considered that. Typically, if I have X----ABCDE, the attack comes from X, each letter is a 5-ft. square, and each creature is meduim-size, I grant B 1/2 cover, C 3/4 cover, D 9/10 cover and E full cover. I think there have been some pretty detailed posts on how much cover to...

How far can you fall in a round?

You did. D&D FAQ pg. 13. This was for running jumps and normal movement since your speed is controlled by you, the character. Falling is different since gravity has an effect (and you could still end your turn in mid-air if you fell far enough).

    ELH: Item Creation (Artifacts)

Can epic level characters create artifacts? From the bits and pieces of the item creation discussions I have seen, it sounds like the item creation rules allow items to be of artifact power. But, are they called artifacts? I guess perhaps the only difference, if they are not, is that...

Item Creation Costs: Single Use, Use-Activated, and Charges/Day

Howdy. I have some item creation rules questions. When creating a item that duplicates a spell effect and can only be used once per day (use-activated), is the formula: base cost = spell level * caster level * 2,000 gp market value = base cost * 1 / 5 Secondly, under the Special section of...

How far can you fall in a round?

Nor does this one. But, in older campaigns we played with cumulative d6 for falling damage: 10'-1d6, 20'-3d6, 30'-6d6, 40'-10d6, 50'-15d6, etc. It more closely modeled real world. FWIW, we just use the standard falling rules now. :) /ds

    Quickened Spells on Scrolls?

There is an item, the potion belt, from FRCS that allows you to draw a potion as a free action once per turn. There is also a scroll organizer, again from FRCS, that you wear and holds 15 scrolls. The flavor text maks it seem like the potion belt, but it doesn't explicitly say you can draw a...
