D&D General Dice Fudging and Twist Endings

It'd be a waste of a waltz then. The "game part of an RPG" isn't a thing without whatever is facilitating tactical infinity (GM judgement, distributed authority, player consensus, whatever). Remove that from the equation and you don't have an RPG at all.

D&D General Dice Fudging and Twist Endings

Because tactical board games do not admit tactical infinity. There is little room for lateral thinking in HeroQuest or Gloomhaven.

Alternity: The TSR/WotC game that time forgot!

I loved Alternity back in the day, and I still have my old books. It's not my go-to space opera game anymore (that would be White•Star), but I definitely use Alternity (especially Star*Drive), d20 Future, and Star Frontiers as system-agnostic supplements when I have occasion to run White•Star.

What's the WORST Star Wars movie?

Oh, that's easy — it's The Force Awakens, because The Force Awakens was trying so very hard to be A New Hope without actually being A New Hope. It was also the bellwether for the direction of the third trilogy, which means that all responsibility for everything wrong with The Last Jedi and Rise...

D&D General Fantasy Equivalent of the Nuke

The deplorable word from The Chronicles of Narnia. Alternatively, the killer joke from Monty Python.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I wasn't a Wot¢ customer before this mess; they just dragged me into it by coming after the OGL. The best they can hope for from me is that I'll go back to not thinking about them and not talking about them in addition to not buying anything from them. But if I do have to mention either Wot¢...

WotC offers YouTuber interview with Kyle Brink

I was familiar with his channel from before the fiasco. "Anodyne" is the adjective that immediately leaps to mind — his vibe is like if Bob Ross were a D&D guru. Makes sense to go with Bob from WotC's perspective.

Let's make 1/27 Open License Day!

I'm on board. It makes a worthier hobby-wide celebration IMO than May the Fourth (Be With You), Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day, or even Gary Gygax Day.

The stupid part of all of this...

As I wrote on my blog recently, it was just a waste of three-plus weeks. Reminds me of Peter Sellers at the end of Murder By Death.

D&D General So how about alignment, eh?

Alignments are factions that form around parties and facilitate competitive, massively mutiplayer offline open-table play. Ergo: • If the campaign has only one party, there is no use for alignment. • If the campaign has two parties, or two broad factions that the parties in the game might...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

The posts by naysayers opining that Hasbro will succeed in killing 1.0a and we should all just resign ourselves to the bad ending will have rapidly aged like milk in the past fifteen minutes or so.

PC Gamer: OGL not worth fighting for.

While I certainly have no problem with gamers who enjoy a variety of systems, it gets tiresome to see this hipsterish demonization of D&D get trotted out again and again. The very Skyrim analogy that appears in the PC Gamer article was used in a thread over on r/rpg not too long ago, and...

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

All you have to remember is that the sign carries no semantic content at all and can be safely ignored either way, as long as you're paying attention to whether the text calls the adjustment a "bonus" or a "penalty"! :p

What is the most scathing feedback you left?(+)

This. I hammered hard on Justin Alexander's "cultural vandalism" point, emphasizing that the OGL might be copyright WotC, but the vast majority of Open Game Content isn't owned by them, isn't necessarily derived from their IP, and in some pretty major cases (Fate, d6, and the like) was...
