Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

Well, I backed it. Gonna give this system a try. Not with my group who are already anti-OSR. Maybe I'll run it at a bar or something.

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

Are the first 6 zines reprinted in the Westmarches books? I'm confused.

Level Up (A5E) A5E First Impressions

I normally write Post-Mortems at the end of a campaign, but I thought in this case it might be valuable to write about how the campaign and experience with the system began. We had a Session 0 on Sunday, 3/2, and our first session on Sunday, 3/9, so our experience hasn't been very deep at this...

    Thanks! I'll do that.

Which they already did. Last year. I backed it then already. I wouldn't be so salty about it if they added an option to back Volumes 2-3. But this is sticking us fans with buying the same thing twice.

D&D General Castle Zagyg Kickstarter livestream.

Curious if it will be possible to skip Volume 1 and get Volumes 2 & 3. I just bought Yggsburgh last year. I hate to admit it, it's the most bland RPG book I own. The only way I'm considering to use Yggsburgh is as an illusionary Virtual Reality setting in a tavern in Sharn where the patrons...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

Not to get too much of a tangent from the Shadowdark KS, but really quick... My players have a problem that "simple" systems always seem to be grim-dark, low-power, fighting rats in a dungeon with a frying pan, die in one hit, kind of games. Some of us have played Pathfinder 2E. I think it's...

D&D General Favorite Iconic D&D Metropolis

I'm just now digging into Eberron and we're playing in Sharn. So much going on there.

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

We went in the opposite direction and started A5E. My players like their super powers, hence their hesitancy to play OSR. I'm waffling between a PDF pledge or maybe just getting the core book. I don't know about a $200+ purchase to get everything. The starter set PDF wasn't able to sell them.

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

The FOMO is high for me - especially since I don't have any of the Shadowdark books. I'm still on the fence because I have so many OSR systems. My groups don't especially like them, so it's unlikely I'd ever use it.

Level Up (A5E) Starter set any good?

I got it in a PDF bundle but not the physical product. IIRC, there's no information about character creation (just the pregens). Oddly, the pregens start at level 4, so it's a Starter Set that isn't for new players. I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who has the 3 Core Books of A5E...

    Semi-sensible thousand-year plans?

This is tricky because it's so much longer than the human experience, even longer than most earthly civilizations (excepting a few ancient cultures). Create the structure of a new philosophy, school of thought, or religion, with the eventual goal of enlightenment. This would be more than...

D&D General What Is D&D Generally Bad At That You Wish It Was Better At?

I wish it was better with not requiring certain character archetypes. For example, a party without access to healing magic is going to struggle. In my experience, finding someone who wants to play a cleric is a challenge. Even in 4E with healing surges, the party couldn't get "up to speed"...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Is Talking About AI in D&D Again

I like Level Up. One of my players was telling her college-aged daughter about it, and she asked to look through my books while her mom was making her character at our Session Zero last week. The daughter was excited and said "everything I was thinking about changing in 5E has already been...

    GM no-roll

I also like Dread, but I think calling it an "RPG" is a stretch. It's Jenga with storytelling.

    GM no-roll

Rolling dice is fun. Being surprised by the outcome of attacks and damage is fun. As the GM, I'm also there to have fun. It adds excitement for the players to see rolls in the open. I have thrown out systems (such as Symbaroum) because I don't get to roll.

Can anyone verify if these dice sets are compatible with 2024 D&D? ;)

D&D 4E What is today the best way to start D&D 4E (paid and free)?

I ran several seasons of D&D Encounters at my FLGS - and attempted last year to start a campaign around the "Lost Crown of Neverwinter" season. My group couldn't get a handle on the "artificial" structure - like you can only recharge Daily powers at the end of a chapter. They're also extremely...

Also, the DM's Kit includes the pretty great adventure The Reavers of Harkenwold.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

The genres I don't do well with... Sci fi. There's just too many varieties to get a consistent expectation of play. Also, technology can destroy traditional adventure set-ups. Additionally, they tend towards crunchy rules, over reliance on gear, and lots of fiddly numbers. Westerns. They...
