    Deadlands: Lost Colony (SWADE) Post-Mortem

As is my tradition, each time a game ends, I try to learn from it. This time I'm looking at the Deadlands: Lost Colony with Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) and our 6-session campaign experience with it. About the Group Player A: my wife, a power gamer who likes butt kicking and...

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

When I play in person, I definitely prefer print. You can easily pass a book, send it home with a player, and a lot of these PDFs are just bad to use (granted some of this is because of my computing power, which I need to remedy).

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

I've managed to avoid the Apple ecosystem thus far, so I'm hesitant to start at this stage in life. I may look into some Android tablets.

    On warning points...

Ultimately, we're all responsible for how we respond to each other on here. No one can "troll" a person enough to make them get banned. If someone is trolling you, you have it in your power to ignore them.

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

Yeah, I bought the physical book from my local game store. And sure, I can just look up what I need from Archives of Nethys now. Like I could with the 2.0 stuff before the revision. In either case, I feel like a sucker for buying the physical book at all. This kind of rapid "mid-edition"...

Level Up (A5E) Eberron and Level Up?

Next week we're going to have Session 0 and character creation for our first Level Up campaign, which we want to do in Eberron. For the races that don't have corresponding heritages in LU (such as warforged), would it be best to just remove the stat increases? I'd probably need to come up with...

Pathfinder 2E Why are all the magic items so boring?

I don't enjoy it. I would prefer items to be integrated better as a part of the character and be useful for long stretches of time: Bilbo and Sting, Drizzt and Guenhwyvar, Han and the Falcon. Having equipment that you just "throw away" kills the story and is a wasted opportunity.

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

I have two from MCDM ... 256.9 MB, 172.6 MB. I might be able to get low res versions. Exploring Eberron is 67 MB. Fateforge is 172.9. Most 13th Age books are in the 100 range. Call of Cthulhu Starter Set Adventure book is 149. But my machines also struggle with Level Up PDFs, which are around...

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

The main thing holding me back from fully adopting PDFs is that the files are usually enormous and they cause my tablets and computers to freeze when trying to read them, regardless of my device. If anyone can recommend a great device upon which to read PDFs, I'd welcome the suggestions.

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

I understand that. I instead picked up the books in PDF. They seem good quality. To me, it's not worth the $75 and $33 shipping to get them in print. Paizo, WotC, and even Troll Lord Games are releasing books at premium prices with only marginal changes to the books I purchased a few years ago...

    Guns & Gears Remastered Review

At this price, purchasing an updated book of something I already owned (and never used), I just can't justify it, even from a collector's standpoint. (D&D is also bad. Yesterday, I backed out of ordering print copies of two Keith Baker's Eberron books that were $75 a pop and $33 shipping. I...

Pathfinder 2E Why are all the magic items so boring?

They're interesting and fun additions to exploration and social encounters. For example, I implemented the Grease spell last session during a Chase scene. It's difficult to see the effectiveness in a combat scenario, however. Like, in a very special circumstance where my character is defending a...

Pathfinder 2E Why are all the magic items so boring?

I'm a player in a PF2 game. My character is 5th level and has a few magic items (beyond the "core" stuff I must have to stay relevant). I have an item that can cast Grease once per day and an Onyx watchdog once per week. I've used the Grease once and the watchdog twice. I also have a magical...

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

In the olden days we had character classes that were difficult to qualify for if you rolled your stats legitimately: Bard, Ranger, Paladin. A lot of pages were dedicated to these special edge cases because they were aspirational for players. Similarly, powerful artifacts were rarely seen. I...

    AD&D 2E Huh. AD&D 2e is my favorite D&D

Yes, and that art was terrible. A bunch of featureless and incomplete drawings compared to nice oil paintings in the original releases.

    AD&D 2E Huh. AD&D 2e is my favorite D&D

2e is at my nostalgic core, but I haven't played it in decades. I wonder how well it would play today for my group though.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is Monster Manual 2025 compatible with 2014 Characters?

I was being snarky. But the power boost they got in 2025 seemed necessary, especially for the high CR creatures. Even without the new features in 2024, characters can trounce many creatures from the old MM.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is Monster Manual 2025 compatible with 2014 Characters?

I don't think the 2014 Monster Manual is compatible with 2014 characters.

D&D 5E (2024) "Conversion" of Old Monsters to New Standards

I'm fairly sure I saw a video from @SlyFlourish or maybe Teos Abadia (Alphastream) that had a guide of increasing monster HP to bring them more in line with the 2024/25 math. I think it was don't change low CR, double others, etc. Has anyone seen this video or know what the conversion rate is...

Pathfinder 2E Why are all the magic items so boring?

IMO, magic items in Pathfinder 2 have to be boring because they can't throw off the tight balance. In fact, I think all the spells, feats, and class abilities tend to be underwhelming compared to other games because of the balance quandary. They're more like incremental upgrades than anything...
