I found the basic tutorials online to be similarly unuselful( a few good tips here and there). I found the tutorials on people macros and API scripts very useful.

When I started with Roll20 there were a lot of “Well... it works for now” moments. Followed in later sessions by “A-Ha! It WORKS!”.

I’m not sure this will help but... I’ve never had this issue myself. Maybe scale the IMAGE up? I suppose you may lose quality. Alternatively: assuming this is a map that the players might have in their inventory you can make it a handout for the players to look at at their leisure.

Sounds like SOME ones been injecting bleach.

Make sure the player tokens have “has sight” checked. And make sure you save THAT token to the sheet. So many times I’ve changed stuff and forgot to remove the token from the sheet and then save it.

So... I’d say it is worth the subscription IF you will be using Roll20 for a significant time. I’ve been using it with the same group of people for some time now: I’ve found the lighting, storage space and API scripts( pretty easy to install and add some cool functionalities)to be worth it...

A lot of the time that happens to me there is a small setting in the token that needs to be set. OR I changed the setting and forgot to link the new token to the character sheet.

I ran a whole campaign with the free version of roll20. It worked out fine. The bells and whistles of dynamic lighting and fog of war are neat (and I like using them; my players too) but not necessary IMO.
