Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

Can anyone explain to me why we're assuming that because Daggerheart is not a d20 system / 5e like or such, that it won't replace 5e for campaign 4? Seems like it's all based on speculation or people talking past each other... ?

    Anybody using Threads yet?

Is Threads available in the UK? It's not available in the EU, probably because the entire thing is a horrific privacy nightmare (as is all Facebook things - I say this having had to use WhatsApp in the past and having a very dead Facebook account). I can understand why people are using it, but...

D&D General Being a DM is like being a cook

Cold take: r/unpopularopinion is full of nasty people hiding behind having an ""unpopular"" opinion to be nasty to people they don't even want to try to understand. I wouldn't use it as a source of anything except how reddit can be a nasty community that doesn't give a crap about anyone and...

Critical Role Critical Role removes hundreds of YouTube videos and podcast episodes.

That is a fair point. I apologise for being a bit aggressive, I'm not comfortable about talking about the general case when we're talking about a specific case.

I think the real reminder is don't be an abusive PoS to people, particularly the people you say you love. Plenty of people who have intwinned work and personal relationships and don't run into the issues, because they're not abusive PoSs.

Yeah that's a brutal title to have, instead of focusing on the harm and abuse Ashley Johnston faced at the hands of a fiance and boyfriend. My god. What a horrific situation. I am not into Critical Role anymore and have criticism of them but I am glad that they are doing the right thing and...

    How I'd fix Star Wars

Is that in today's US dollar or the US dollar of the time? Because that seems like one of the biggest cost to profit ratios I've seen from a film, holy crap.

    How I'd fix Star Wars

Return of the Jedi is indeed an important film and capstone to the trilogy. But honestly, after seeing it again after watching it in a row with A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back... it is half a good film. Tantoine sequence? Excellent. Everything with Darth Vader, and then Luke, Darth Vader...

Renegade Studios Sends C&D To Stop Small Creator Using The Word 'Renegade'

A twist worthy of this song. This is only going to get even more confusing, isn't it? Probable that ScottG doesn't work for Renegade and is trolling.

Rumour that Disney will have to sell Lucas Film and some parks to pay for Hulu

I think being influential in small ways, without directly being memorable or quotable, still means it has a cultural impact - just indirectly. I see your points however and I find the whole thing fascinatingly confusing. I was talking to someone who helped ran a discord related to Avatar, where...

Rumour that Disney will have to sell Lucas Film and some parks to pay for Hulu

I think it is disquieting to say that nostalgia must form from child play patterns, and that the specific play pattern involves violence and glorifying war. I think that has little to do with Avatar not having nostalgia for it.

    How I'd fix Star Wars

I have ideas for a TTRPG game (not sure what system) set in an alternative Star Wars universe, splitting off from the middle of the Clone Wars and coming in many years later, that would try to address all those points. Granted, I don't have a word on a page, but if I ever got a timeline and idea...

Rumour that Disney will have to sell Lucas Film and some parks to pay for Hulu

I have not seen the second Avatar - take this into account with this comment. Avatar's cultural impact can be clearly seen (and speculated) in how 1) it popularised 3D in films to an absurd degree, where we still the occasional 3D release of certain films even if they don't really work...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

(edit: removed an inappropriate real world political comment i had in this post. But I will say that what I highlighted in bold is extremely risible and shows a lack of caring about real world politics and the issues of today - 'both siding' the world) My person of indiscriminate gender, you're...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

This piece of rhetoric always pees me off. People are discussing problems, trying to get on the same page, and trying to find a way forward; arguing and trying to make better cases. It might be talk, but it's clear a few people are thinking about how they would fix the fighter, which could...

🏳️‍🌈Pride Month- Celebrating Representation in TTRPGs🏳️‍🌈

Considering the fact that there are plenty of lesbians (and presumably men who love men / gay men as well) online talking about how, despite the fact it's clear they are a couple, some people think they are sisters... or mother and daughter... or just 'friends' EVEN WHEN ORGANISING A WEDDING...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

It being an internet argument doesn't disprove that you are calling in an outside source to back up your point, as if it is an expert. Nothing about the seriousness of the argument doesn't mean you aren't using something that has been reliably proven to give false info - and we can't have a good...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

But you're using ChatGPT as an expert* - despite the fact it's not an expert, doesn't know what it's talking about, and didn't even name mention the fact their argument could also be seen as a form of 'reductio ad absurdum' . Calling it a 'misleading comparison'** is terrible as... what exactly...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

FYI ChatGPT is not a reliable source of information in the slightest, and is generally pretty awful at giving anything useful. I wouldn't use it to argue against anyone - you'll get gobbledy-gook.
