Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

What's the stance on D&D Next/5th? I gave that a look and it seems to be a bit more like a mix of 3.5 and 4. The thing with 4 is I didn't like the idea of only having a few skills on hand, and having to pick through a bunch. Is it worth going down to 3.5? How different are the 3.0 DM and MM...

Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

I know, there's never a leader. Hence someone decided to go Paladin because he can heal. Although not as great, surprise. My wife went Fighter at first but may switch Psion since the younger kid isn't apparently playing so no 2x controllers and no defenders like it was looking before. I wasn't...

Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

That might explain it. How often should players really need healing and rest? So far the group is nice and "varied" with a Ranger, Fighter, Paladin and Sword Mage. Normally it would be 5 strikers and a wizard... The idea that 1 hit could very nearly explode one of the players I found odd. Its...

Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

2 kids and Wife finished introduction. My bro in law and friend opted to join at the DM guide/2nd part portion. Youngest kid wasn't interested. 1 less, not too bad. Is it me or do some of these monsters do some insane damage? According to Red Box rules, Gray Wolves get +7 v AC, 1d6+5 and free...

Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

My friends bringing over the books he has. I usually like staying up to date, and it makes it fresh for me too. Explaining Thac0 to kids isn't the most fun either. I picked up the Red Box yesterday and got the 2 kids through the beginning, now the wifes hounding me. I see some errors between...

Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

I dont have any 4E books on hand. I used to have a bunch in pdf format, but deleted them thinking I wouldn't be playing anytime soon, or where I went they had them anyways. My friend says he has all but 2. Not sure wtf that's supposed to entail exactly, but I'll find out shortly. I figure Ill go...

Help getting old 2nd player to DM for 8 and 10 year old daughters

Hey everyone, I haven't played much since 2nd edition. I dabbled in a session of 4e but the DM running it was horrible. Misread a green dragon having ACID reduction and made ALL attacks resist 10 damage for a group of lvl 3's or so. Anyways, I figured this would be something fun to spend time...

    Any Gestalt rules yet?

Been thinking about getting a group going again but we have the dilemma of usually having 2-4 people only, usually never all at once. And on top of that its usually a batch of strikers... So anyone come up with some good ones?

Killed by your own party member!

Ahh, I remember back in 2nd edition with my thief. I never even used ranged weapons and we found a bow with disintegration arrows.... We get attacked by a wyvern, I said watch this! 1 hit kill! I rolled a 1, dm said it pops the fighter in the back, instant kill. Oops, ok, I got em this time...

    KotS: Adaptation for three players

Im in this exact same situation. I have a handful of people interested, but highly doubt Ill get more than 3 going at a time. Im notorious for playing thieves/rogues in any type of game, video, roleplaying , etc. So most people dont even play that. I plan to take the char I wanted to be if I...

Solving DCs - Know Your Group

Nod, I saw all these posts about Skill challenges and read into and saw that one could design a quick, simple method for giving out a little XP without fighting. So with so much riding on a few toss of the die instead, I guess I can see why they lowered success/raised failure rates. And as noted...

    Rogue Weapon Talent Use/Abuse?

Sall good. Thats when a bunch of Skeletons come out, immune to shuriken and dagger damage.

10 Characters, 7 Goblins, and a Hill Giant

Also just because you have an initiative order, doesnt mean everyone actually stood by and took turns whacking. What happened to the old "On 3! 1...2....3!"*madness ensues* Or i guess you could say everyone readied their action for when the last person in the initiative order attacks.

A feat that allows rogues to use more weapons

Nod, I was very surprised with the lack of short bows as a default. For RP reasons, I was just never a fan of the Xbow.

Deft Strike - questions (and other rogue/other questions)

Ahh, small thing I just wanted to clarify. So you don't trigger Opportunity Attacks when moving INTO someones adjacent squares? I dunno why I was thinking any moving, in or out triggered an OA. But on rereading, it seems to be only when leaving an adjacent square on in someones reach sans shifting.

Rogue: Wielding dagger, offhanding shuriken? No penalties?

Ahh it's things like this that I used to aggravate the high hells outta my DM. Just like how in Magic:TG I insisted my 0 damaging Hypnotic specter should still make you lose a card.

So Combat Challenge triggers OA against OA triggered by allies?

I was thinking Deft Strike for a rogue would be chancy without a high defense to Opportunity attacks, but then saw that if someone Marked by a fighter attacks someone else, then the Fighter can pop him one. So If I did a zigzag back and forth like move passed the Enemy, that would trigger an OA...

Rogue: Wielding dagger, offhanding shuriken? No penalties?

I would hope you needed 1 shuriken per target. Unless your talking about the Predators shoulder cannon then... Nice to off hand the beer though. I wonder if it'd count as a minor or free action to break it off into a weapon...
