    Cynicism of an AD&D refugee

I see an additional option: borrowing books from your D&D group. Unless you play exclusively online, if someone else in your group has a book, you could use it too.

    Reveille's Core Rules Questions

    1. To place limits on what powers can be combined with each other? Because you can only take the multiclass power feats once? To keep you from watering down your character too much? Because they said so? 2. Anybody. You just have to be trained in arcana or whatever and take Ritual Caster.

    Blinded

Check out the definition of blinded on page 277. Blinded means your targets have total concealment, not cover. Checking out concealment on page 279 shows that concealment only applies to melee and ranged attacks. Does that solve your problem?

    Barbarian Playtest Experiences

Howling strike is great because you can use it with swift charge and the extra damage is always nice. When raging, Recuperating Strike gets much better. Instead of just a few, it's a whole hit's worth. Pressing strike is great with any weapon. If there is flanking to be had, you will...

    Suggest me a Dilletante power

If you want to do that, go ahead, but I don't think it's necessary. I mean, what part of magic isn't powered by skill and knowledge? Besides, I think "I did a job for a guy who turned out to be the Faerie Queen" isn't so out of place. Or maybe "A long time ago, I thought I wanted to be a...

    Barbarian Playtest Experiences

Actually, check the rules for forced movement. You can always reduce the distance you push something, even to zero.

Initiate of the Faith and Divinity Feats

If a player really wanted to use a Channel Divinity power, I think it'd be fair to let them take the feat and use the power once per day instead of once per encounter. If I saw a rash of people taking Rage of Tempus, I might have to have a talk with some people, though.

    Advice for DM'ing 3-PC party w/o leader?

I'm not familiar with the adventures you're running, but maybe you could come up with some reasons why the enemies would capture the PCs. In case you overdo it, you can segue into the PCs escaping from captivity. You probably don't want to do this repeatedly, but it could come in handy while...

Martial Power Excerpt: The Aerialist Rogue

A class build is just a put-together of options for when you're making a character fast. A class feature is the bonuses you get for being a rogue, e.g. Artful dodger. Edit: ninja'd by Seraph!

    A thief run town... How?

Maybe this "town" is really an exaggerated trading post with a major seedy element. More like Bartertown than Ye Olde Quainte Village

    5th level rogue and 10K gold...pimp me!

Check out the Footpad's Friend weapon. +Cha to damage whenever you sneak attack will come in handy a lot more often, but Laughing Death is interesting. Do you really need the muleback harness and a bag of holding? If your party doesn't already have one, get some Everlasting Provisions and...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

I don't really see this as a major part of WoW's design. I mean, look at this page. This information is very different from the focussed, codified roles that 4e has. WoW designers did increase player communication about party roles due to their strict party composition. In WoW, if a party...

    Ability Score Blues

Whereas getting that extra +1 makes all the difference? Is hitting on a 9 at level 1 and a 14 at 30 so much different?

Help with math: how do you not fall behind?

I'm not sure that's true. Low-level monsters are often concepted as smaller and/or at least somewhat dexterous so they tend to have good reflex. So warlocks and wizards heavy on reflex attacks suffer there. Furthermore, at higher levels the DM can use some lower-level monsters to fill out...

D&D 4E Forked Thread: Some Thoughts on 4e

Were you ever in a party with a wizard who used time stop to cast two meteor swarms? Yeah, CubeKnight is exaggerating some, but there's still merit to his statement.

Defensive Scores - Fort, Ref, Will - how do they work?

How much of the PHB have you read? Did you check out Chapter 2 where it explains the character sheet? If you missed the basic definition of defenses, maybe you should review this section before you start playing.

Dragon 368 - Death Matters (But Never Happens)

Well, the new edition does reward tactical play. If the players coordinate their actions, they can accomplish a lot more than if they all act alone. And it looks like you have players who are making the most of this. Try keeping them on their toes. Get creative. Maybe the monsters bust out...
