Reveille's Core Rules Questions

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
So I finally bit the bullet and bought the PHB yesterday. Looking over some things I have a couple of questions.

01. Why is it that characters are limited to only having one multiclass feat?

02. Who can use rituals? I can't seem to find a disclaimer limiting it to certain classes.

I can't really answer #1. I like that you can only have one, but I don't know the reasons behind it--maybe it was some backlash from the over the top multiclassing of 3(.5)ed.

2) Anyone who takes the ritual Caster Feat can use rituals from a ritual book.
Anyone trained in Arcana or Religion can take the ritual caster feat.
Anyone can train in Arcana or Religion by taking the feat 'skill training'.
Anyone (with or without the feat) can use a ritual from a ritual Scroll.

1. To place limits on what powers can be combined with each other? Because you can only take the multiclass power feats once? To keep you from watering down your character too much? Because they said so?

2. Anybody. You just have to be trained in arcana or whatever and take Ritual Caster.

The limit on Multiclass feats is for game balance. As the previous poster mentioned, it helps to limit power combos and keep a single character from becoming uber-powerful.

The second question: I agree with the previous posters.

To add to this --

Wizards and Clerics get the Ritual Caster feat for free, along with certain rituals to start with in their spellbooks.

And, even if you are another class and take the feat on your own, you still need to learn some rituals. So it's a slow, but not impossible, process to be a non-wizard and non-cleric but still learn rituals.

The ability for anyone to use ritual scrolls without the feat is pretty good though.

If you really wanted to, I suppose you could house rule that players can take as many multiclass feats as they like, or maybe a maximum of two (to give that second ed fighter/rogue/mage feel).

I kinda like multiclassing as it is, but that's obviously a matter of opinion.

Another note - some elements of multiclassing flavor can be gotten simply through feats and skills. Does it matter if you are a "rogue" if you are able to find traps, pick locks (and pockets), hide from enemies, evade fireballs and have an uncanny knack for dodging incoming blows?

You can't really be a fighter/wizard with sneak attack, but you can certainly be a fighter/wizard that is also a thief.
