    Why won't you switch?

But this isn't a thread about why one should/shouldn't switch - it's a thread about why we aren't switching.

D&D 4E Going/Not Going to 4E which edition did you start with?

Started with the Red Box in about '82, moved on to AD&D, mostly skipped 2E (except for stuff I mined here and there), converted over to 3.x in about 2002, will not convert to 4E, but I'm sure I'll play it eventually (since some of my buddies will buy it :p ).

Provide evidence of this claim, or retract it because it's a dishonest statement. ;)

DM request: recommend an epic adventure

Also, The Storm Lords Keep by James Wyatt in issue #93 of Dungeon was a pretty good adventure too... for 21st level characters.

DM request: recommend an epic adventure

You could try the City of Brass boxed set by Necromancer Games. It has challenges for epic characters and overall, it's a great product! Also, there were a couple of epic level adventures published in the pages of Dungeon magazine - Quicksilver Hourglass by Anson Caralya in issue # 123 was for...

    Why won't you switch?

    1. Still only halfway done with STAP. 2. Rise of the Runelords adventure path is not 4E. 3. Curse of the Crimson Throne adventure path is not 4E. 4. The Second Darkness adventure path will (hopefully) not be 4E. I have so much stuff still to do and try out in 3.x, why would I want to start...

How Long Can You DM ?

We regularly (about once every other month), have a weekend Marathon Session. We start with 3-4 hours on Friday night, 12-15 hours on Saturday, and then another 4-6 hours on Sunday. Been doing this for about 3 years now - played through Age of Worms and about half-way through Savage Tide with...

Barrow of the Forgotten King for larger group

No Need... I started running this adventure for a group of 7 PC's the other weekend and it went fine as written. In fact (Spoiler ahead...) the Ogre Zombie was nearly a TPK for them... SLAM!!! If you feel they are having too easy a time of it, maybe increase the number of some of the low CR...

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

Thanks James, Mike and Erik for enlightening us on Paizo's decision. Scribble, now you've hit the trifecta - Three replies from Piazo's greatest (and Mike too ;) ... just kidding Mike). Hopefully this clears it up for you.

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

No, because there was not a way for them to make a profitable monthly adventure magazine without incuring a million dollar cost to get that magazine into the same magazine rack spots as Dungeon and Dragon were.

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

Also Vic Wertz, Paizo's Technical Director, has stated on a thread on their messageboards, that printing Pathfinder is much more cost-effective than printing a magazine. Another factor as well, I'm sure...

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

You're welcome. It's a bit fuzzy to me as well, but I think here's where we start to get into profit margins. You can settle for the lesser amount of shelf space with a book because it sells for more. Whereas a magazine that sells for less has to rely on much more numerous sales to be...

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

GameMastery Modules are a monthly, 32-page stand-alone adventure. Very well done, IMO.

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

Scrib, I don't pretend to understand the Magazine buisiness at all, but from what I gather, a new magazine wouldn't be able to have the same shelf space on newsstands that Dungeon and Dragon did (because they are highly recopgnizable names), not without spending loads of money to get that space...

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

Paizo, as a company, was starting to branch out before the ending of the Dungeon and Dragon licences. They had already started producing the GameMastery Modules, as well as many other products. For various reasons, some they have stated (see above), others they have not, they chose not to...

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

Would the same advertisers paid for the same add-space in these new magazines as they did with Dungeon and Dragon? Probably not, as the new mag would have been an unrpoven commodity?
