D&D 5E (2024) Skeleton Entry and Stat Blocks from New Monster Manual

The putting themselves back together I can see. I have vague memories of stuff like that from some books or movies. In particular, how the skeleton actually works has always been a head-scratcher. There's nothing connecting the bones together, so how do they move, or even stay standing? The...

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

Yeah, See Invisibility in conjunction with hiding making use of the Invisible condition starts getting weird. When See Invisibility was just the ability to see through the illusion that the Invisibility spell caused, it made sense. (And also the ethereal plane, but that's not relevant here.)...

Because "See Invisible" exists. As mentioned by Treantmonk, technically being invisible vs a creature with See Invisible still allowed you to have the benefits of being invisible (advantage to hit, disadvantage to being hit), despite being seen. This closes that loophole. Personal view on some...

D&D 5E (2024) Skeleton Entry and Stat Blocks from New Monster Manual

Nor does the minotaur skeleton, despite the description talking about a "mighty greataxe". Time to pull out Ray of Frost, a longbow, and some caltrops to slow it below 20' of movement. Then it's "only" 11 damage.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

That's the point. When you take the Attack action, you have a certain number of attacks available, and other features can change what and how many those attacks are. Extra Attack modifies the attacks available, as does attacking with two Light weapons. It did not say "one of the attacks...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I'd partially disagree with your interpretation here. So, one of the attacks you have as a result of taking the Attack action may be replaced with a cantrip. The War Magic text does not say "one of the attacks that you make during the Attack action", it just says "one of the attacks". This...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

So is this thread solely for tracking who has reviews, or is it also for discussing the changes that get revealed? I would think a separate discussion thread would be better, but don't see any at the moment.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Sorcerer"

I think there are too many limitations layered on top of each other with respect to metamagic (limited spells, limited sorcery points, limited metamagics), and part of that manifests in the non-usefulness of the level 7 feature to use 2 metamagics at a time. I'd change it to where you get 2...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

The Warrior of the Elements monk is, frankly, what I wished my Storm Sorcerer could have been when I played that. Some specific details vary, but it does feel like it plays the elemental sorcerer better than the sorcerer.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

The Weapon Master feat in UA 5 just had the standard level 4 requirement. It also only gives you mastery on 1 weapon (though with a +1 to Str or Dex as well). It would be enough for a monk to get Nick on a dagger, and the +1 Dex isn't a waste. Might also work for ranger or rogue, to have...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Sorcerer"

I know a couple people who really love the Wild Magic sorcerer, so I don't mind that they spend time on that. Even if I don't care for it, some people do. Heh. The Ranger Reveal thread in this forum has almost 1000 posts, while the second highest is paladin at a little over 400, and then all...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Sorcerer"

No comments about the metamagic changes, other than that there were changes. Nice replacement in Draconic Sorcerer's capstone, getting a dragon companion (summon dragon for free 1/day, no concentration) instead of Draconic Presence. Everyone gets bonus spells (though Wild Magic's table is...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Yeah, this is an interesting take on it. Feels like a re-flavoring of the spell for the Hunter subclass — a sniper effect, the kind of thing you'd expect of a "Colossus Slayer" (instead of just, "do an extra die of damage once per turn"). In fact, it would be interesting to allow each subclass...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Every single attempt to homebrew a new ranger that I have seen has struggled with the idea of the class identity. That WotC also struggles with this is therefore not surprising. However they have shown that they can come up with creative new ideas. Primal Knowledge and Brutal Strike for...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook preview: "New Spells"

While the revised Blade Ward sounds a little iffy for full casters (assuming it's still only castable on self), it sounds like a much more interesting option for martials taking the Magic Initiate origin feat. Or, put another way, it makes Magic Initiate a more interesting origin feat choice...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook preview: "New Spells"

The +d4 damage is only damage, while the +1 magic weapon adds to accuracy as well as damage. Once you factor in accuracy, the +1 (and +2) gains value and the +d4 loses value. The +d4 is still closer to a +2 weapon than a +1 weapon, though.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook preview: "New Spells"

While I agree it would be nice, extra elemental damage per attack is actually pretty strong in terms of DPR. Generally, a +1d4 and +1d6 damage die sits right on either side of getting a +2 magic weapon. The +1d4 is closer to the +2 weapon than the +1 weapon. The Magic Weapon spell is level 2...
