    The new Hobbit movie

Haven't read the book in almost two decades, but I seem to remember Bombur spoke with Bilbo in Moria.

    The new Hobbit movie

I had a lot of fun with it. It's not very often we get to see dwarfs cursing and smashing orcs in movies, so I relished the opportunity. I even managed to find Thranduil somewhat cool, and that's a character I've disliked ever since I read the book at age 11. It did feel a bit odd at first with...

    Recommend me something!

Steampunk: -Castle Falkenstein: It's sort of like a XIX century version of Shadowrun, but with so much charm and panache you won't be able to put it down. The game uses a card-based system (as in actual playing cards) instead of dice, and it is supposed to have been written by Mad King Ludwig...

What's a Freelance RPG Writer Worth?

This is a fantastic source of otherwise very hard to come by information. I just published my first RPG supplement a few months ago and have plans for several more, so this is a great point of comparison. Thank you very much, Morrus, as well as all the people who provided the intel. Much...

    D&D 5E (2014) Point buy or Dice?

I've used 4d6 drop lowest (8 times, choose the highest 6) since I started, and still use it today. Nowadays, though, I give players the option of either using the standard distribution or risking higher/lower scores by rolling. Almost always they go with rolling.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which non-Realmsian setting for you?

Planescape, Spelljammer, Dark Sun, and Dragolance are my main interests. Eberron has been slowly gaining me over in the last couple of years, though. If I have to be honest, however, I'd rather see either updated material and/or additional content than straight-out revisions; to this day I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Recreating High-level Pathfinder characters in 5e

Thank you very much, guys. I directed my players here so they can check the advice more directly. Much appreciated! Oh, yes, my apologies. I didn't want to clutter with too much information. Generally speaking, the characters specialize as follows: -Cassius: Human Rogue 16. Skill-monkey...

5E: Last Gasp of Theater of Mind D&D? (aka D&D Killed by Windows 10!)

I think it will still be too impractical and require far too much work. I wouldn't be surprised to see "image packs" for sale/open source in the near future, but I doubt we'll be seeing comprehensive, quick, and easy-to-implement holoimagery in the short or mid term to the point that the DM...

D&D 5E (2014) Who would want to see rule books annotated with developer quotes on the system's mechanics?

That'd be neat. I enjoy when authors include notes on why they made specific choices (like in some of the GURPS books). I'd buy those.

    D&D 5E (2014) Recreating High-level Pathfinder characters in 5e

Last saturday, players of the current Planescape campaign I'm running with Pathfinder asked about the posibility of changing over to 5e. I told them that, even though I really like 5e, it might prove to be complicated (they are all 16th level) and that their characters might have to endure...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Mysterious 8th Ray

That's the mystery! Every previous incarnation of the spell -even Pathfinder's- reads "Seven shimmering rays", while in 5e it reads "Eight shimmering rays"! Yet there is no description of the 8th one, only of the 8th result (which refers to the other 7 rays)! There never has been an 8th ray...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Mysterious 8th Ray

Reading the description of Prismatic Spray in 5e's PHB I noticed the text mentions eight rays, but only describes seven, leaving the last for rerolling. Now, this could mean two things: A typo, or the much more likely scenario that there's a hidden 8th ray someone at WotC doesn't want us to...

    AD&D 2E Map of the AD&D 2e Cosmology

Ohh, yes. One of the things that I love the most about Planescape/Spelljammer is the huge amount of stuff hinted at but never fully explained. There's just so much stuff to explore out there! Thanks, man. Much appreciated. And yes! After I finished the map, I realised I got so focused on...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gods in the mltliverse/great wheel

Hm, I think you are correct. Still, Planescape books explicitly mention Aebrynis, and Spelljammer is canonical within Planescape, so there's that connection at least as far as published books go.
