Charge - To nearest square? Huh?

'a', and the two squares to the right are all the same distance in 4e and valid squares to end your charge. 'straight' lines arn't a requirement anymore as long as you get closer with each step of the charge. The move action before the charge, could go in any direction, sometimes to shift back...

Shift and Difficult Terrain - And Kobolds!

The players handbook does use movement 5 in difficult terrain as an example. One move gets you two squares, two move actions get you 5 squares. With the general rule president, It seems clear you can spend two shift 1 actions to shift one in difficult terrain.

Is the Fighter’s Combat Challenge an Opportunity Attack?

Thanks everyone for your help. Looks like playing or having a fighter in the group is going to be a lot more complicated keeping track of whether he's used his CC yet each round, and which attack he's using or if he's using both. We had been playing it as one and the same (no limit on CC...

Is the Fighter’s Combat Challenge an Opportunity Attack?

Is the Fighter’s Combat Challenge an Opportunity Attack? I’m making my first fighter and noticed something new (to me). These are two separate attack types. I needed to calculate two attack bonuses for Opportunity Attacks and Combat Challenge attacks because the fighter feats don’t apply to...

    Force Orb Question

I thought this has been clarified but don't care enough to look it up as our DM isn't a tool. That and when you have someone stubborn even that doesn't matter to them (would it?). I only read this far hoping someone would point out where. Quite antidotal, but I thought the DDI demo used force...

D&D 4E 4e is BROKEN if you ignore a major rule

6d6 psychic damage and 10 ongoing plus stunned, save ends both. Instead of stunned ueoynt on a miss. Effectively the stunned effect is at least the same unless the target has some immunity or immediate reaction to shrug off save ends effects before their turn starts. As a player I don't know...

    Jumping over Opponents

I agree that the half oppoenent's level and size modifiers work out nicely. But to be pedantic the DMG p42 rule suggests half the character's level, so jumping over that level 1 minion will get harder as you go up in level (well basically your own half level is added to the DC 15).

    Drow, Brutal, Daggermaster Rogue

I'm not to daggermaster yet, but I've given up on the rapier and use my dagger exclusively. Your games may vary, but 10 squares rarely requires movement. I'm saying, I doubt you would use crossbow or sword. Add the daggermaster benefits and I can't imagine a use for another weapon. Power...

    Dragon abilities

I'd call the group equal to 4 level 3's. One level (especially 2-3) isn't going to make that much difference as to not count him at all. Due to some players regularly missing and others that are always there; We ended up with a spread from 5th to 8th. I didn't notice that much disparity. Our...

    A question of Perception...

I'll have to borrow a DM book and look at it. I'm not getting how it is not a stealth check. I can understand that it's not a hide attempt (which uses stealth) with no line of sight. You ARE moving silently (or not so much) in order to avoid detection, that also is a use of the stealth skill...

    A question of Perception...

Where is that quote from? I'd look for a correction in the eratta if I had the book and page number. If it's not already eratta'd I'd expect it to be. The problem is in the calculation of situation 1. If the party is already standing at the door and wispering, then the DC 25 seems fine. If...

    Blinded

It doesn't come back? I've asked here before and it looked like you would use the same magic dagger on all Blinding Barrage blasts. I was using the dagger once, then shuriken for the rest of the attacks. My DM thought that didn't feel right switching weapons in the same attack action, and...

    Battle Standards and Solitaire

Half-dragon, yes it's of limited use if you use it on yourself. It would require waiting until next round or a minor action attack, an action point or opportunity attack and then to hit in the first place. The intention is likely the cleric is giving up his standard action to give someone else...

D&D 4E Any tips for speeding up the game? 4e is slowing me down!

One thing that has helped us tremendously is splitting up duties. Have one person track initiative, another track the monster's hitpoints*, and let the DM focus on attacks and adjudication. *Someone tracks damage done, then announces to the DM the total when we suspect it matters (bloodied or...

Stealth - the low down UPDATED!

I think you are stretching the interpretation here. I'd agree that the other monsters know what square you are in, and are alerted to your presence. I don't know the guidelines for granting bonuses but that certainly seems reasonable. If the monster knows the target square, they can easily...

    Old Master Bug List.

4e rules Archive The D&D 4th Edition Rules archive (near the top) seems to be down. Same for Unofficial Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition Info Page. All the others (that I tried) work fine. I don't know if that means there is no archive, or if It's just moved/misplaced.

    Commander’s Strike (Warlord)

Commander’s Strike (Warlord) So the Warlord (Int+2) orders the 1st level Fighter to attack. The fighter's basic Attack is normally +6 (str and weapon prof) vs AC and damage 1d10+4 (str and weapon focus). With the Commander's strike he is still +6 vs AC, and does 1d10+6?

    Knocking Godzilla Prone

I seem to recall in the "actions in combat" section there was a restriction by size. That might have just been for bull rush limiting it to one size category larger than you.
