Deft Strike - questions (and other rogue/other questions)

Assuming you did not already use sneak attack on your own turn. You can only sneak attack once per round. But yes, your point is correct. Also, as lukelightning pointed out. The wizard and warlock get ranged basic attacks, they can't use those for (melee) opportunity attacks.

You gain a bonus to the attack roll equal to your Strength modifier.

Topple Over (p119?) is what I was looking at, but thought the teminology came up enough to be a general question. Same with Torturous Strike except it's "damage 2[W] + Dexerity modifier damage" and "Brutal Scoundrel: You gain a bonus to the damage roll equal to your Strength modifier." I was...

You gain a bonus to the attack roll equal to your Strength modifier.

When you have an Attack: Dex vs AC and Special: You gain a bonus to the attack roll equal to your Strength modifier. Do you add both Dex and Str, the best or only Strength?

    Illusion (figment) and saving throws

I was sure you wouldn't be able to do that (thinking it required concentration). But that looks like it should work since concentration isn't required. Even if they make the save, they realize it's an illusion, but it wouldn't reveal your true location… by sound at least. Visual spell effects...

    Uses for Minor Creation?

Must have rolled a 1 on my Intelligence check. Even after you answered it, I don't think I've heard the term applied to all plant matter. Probably one of those questions on 'Are you Smarter than a 5th grader' that 95% of the world has heard of. I even checked Wikipedia, which had an even...

    Uses for Minor Creation?

From one source, we have it good for a source of fuel.... Vegetable Matter: peat - partially carbonized vegetable matter saturated with water; can be used as a fuel when dried coal - fossil fuel consisting of carbonized vegetable matter deposited in the Carboniferous period Thinking of how you...

    Uses for Minor Creation?

I must be missing something. D20SRD.org lists this as creating 1 square ft/ level of vegetable matter. I was thinking this was plant matter (which would at least allow for wood items) but apparently not. [Edit: Is wood a vegetable?, or more precisely are the wood like vegetables?] So what is...

Intimidate, or "whoops I wasted my skill points"

What is there to answer? I see no supposition about how it works in 4e, it was a simple question about how you would like it to be. I assume there is some source for it's existence in 4e. Intimidate does show up in the 4e Pre-Release Rules as: Intimidate: Use this skill to influence others...

D&D 4E Has 4E killed the Rules forum?

Guilty too. Our group is on Hiatus for a few months, so the interest on rules and opinions have given way to anticipation of 4E. I can hardly see going back to 3.5 if 4E were coming out sooner. I hope we win the playtester lottery. The lack of interest started shortly after hearing 4E was...

    Invisibility and glowing swords

Light however is an emination (I assume light is also). Eminations are blocked by line of effect issues so, sheathing your invisible glowing sword in your invisible sheath quite effectively hides the light. Of course, a 'realistic' or 'logical' argument could be drawn the other way.

    Barbarian rage and trip attack

I guess that means that he CAN trip, he just won't get the +4 to trip (IIRC) or followup attack. (or whatever the feat grants if I'm mistaken)

    Sniping from the shadows

They do stack, the problem is you need to qualify for both. If you move and make a raged attack, you probably arn't flanking in Melee or hidden. From what I have seen in practice is the rogue/scout gets one or the other, rarely both outside first round flat footed.

    Sniping from the shadows

I haven't seen sneak attack add up to much unless you have a lieninet DM and ideal campaign setting. It looks like you have the camaign (vs humans). Ranged sneak attack compounds the circumstatial concerns. It's not easy to pull off. What is Bow Feint from? As for getting the most of your...

    Concealment and Coup de grace

Is there anything preventing Coup de grace when there is a miss chance. This was from magical darkness 20%, but could be applied to Blur or even invisibility. It came up in a recent game, and didn't really matter, but got me wondering on what the rule should have been. The player argued he...

Knight Alternate class feature for dwarves

I rather enjoyed playing a knight, and didn't have a mount for most of the game. The other knight I saw played never had a mount. It's still a strong class even if you never take advantage of the mounted abilities. At 5th level I took the extra feat quickdraw, not tht bad, but at 10th and...

    Hide Skill Confusion

I haven't heard of anyone granting a hidden character +2 to attack. I'm sure they are considered the same in all other respects by FAQ, and most games.

Firing into melee and ranged sneak attacks.

    1. there is -4 penalty to firing into melee (negated by the precise shot feat), and a probable -4 for cover from those in melee. If the rogue is able to move perpendicular to the two combatants, or attack the 'back' of the one closest to him. It looks like you can sneak attack through cover...

Druid Shapeshifting from PHBII and other questions

I just checked. The warshaper morphic weapons abilities isn't limited by use per day, or wild shape ability. The PRC does have 'special' prerequisites, I assume the PHII variant qualifies. Hence, there wouldn't be any limitation of the # of uses.

    Hide Skill Confusion

Using the PHB only, there is still one more possibility they are using for how they handle hide. Invisibility is a condition givin in the back of the book, most notably granted by the spell invisibility. Aside from not beeing seen (same as hide), defenders are denied their dex (same as hide)...

Druid Shapeshifting from PHBII and other questions

Dire Bear has Str 31. A good +16 over what a typical Druid would have. That's also acessable at 8th level. I'm not sure how that factors into the question of whether or not you are supposed to get it, but it wouldn't seem unreasonable. Dire Bear has 12 HD, I'm thinking you are restricted by...
