WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

I knew that part would turn some people off. That's the only time in the song he does that though. Stick around for the rest; the lyrics are pretty cool (especially if you like Norse mythology). It is about Ragnarok.

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

That's what I was most disappointed by as well: the animations. They are terrible. The moment when Bruenor raises his shield and tilts his head is telling. It's almost like I'm watching the guy in Dire Straits' Money for Nothing video in 1987 again.

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

Don't forget DDO. Some people didn't like it, due to the fact that it took some chances in its dungeon structure, but my friends and I played the heck out of it, and loved it. Nothing like having Gary Gygax narrate a dungeon for you!

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

You make a good point that we don't know much, but I think the trailer does tell us a little more about the game: it tells us that the graphics are going to be cartoony, and the animations clunky. That's part of what is turning me off personally. DnD is a big IP, and it could have been given...

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

I've played both Divinity games, and very much enjoyed them. I think Larian really was a great choice for BGIII. So hope is warranted, I think.

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

I liked some of the old Dark Alliance games and am definitely up for a Forgotten Realms actioner (even though I would prefer a deep RPG). The trailer though... ugh. I like the idea that they were trying to show you the visceral action. But the execution was clearly flawed: the camera angles...

Cubicle 7 No Longer Producing The One Ring and Adventures in Middle Earth

Thanks, that helps a lot. That sounds pretty cool. You've convinced me to take a look at TOR now!

Cubicle 7 No Longer Producing The One Ring and Adventures in Middle Earth

Ok, thanks for the perspective. Can you summarize how the journey rules work? What makes them good or unique?

Thank you very much for that clear explanation. That helps me a great deal!

Cubicle 7 No Longer Producing The One Ring and Adventures in Middle Earth

Can you be a bit more specific about what you think failed? I just ask because I never got to play ToR 1e, and was wondering if it was worth trying. I am an old MERP/Rolemaster player, so complexity is not a problem for me. But I wonder what specifically was problematic in ToR 1e. Thanks

TSR When TSR Passed On Tolkien

Yes, thanks for posting that Rpgresearch! By the way, do you know when the Tolkienmoot 2020 will be? Are you sticking with October, or going back to July?

D&D General D&D 'Infernal Font' for $10 for Extra Life

Must be a lot of Germans in Hell, because that sure looks a lot like Gothic.

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

You are right of course that there was always competition. Maybe my impressions have been swayed by my own evolution; I never played much 2nd Edition DnD because our group had largely moved on to other things. It would be interesting (though probably impossible?) to see what DnD's market share...

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

I think SMHWorlds put it best: one of the things that changed was competition, which became fiercer once DnD became a hit. My group all started with D&D (BECMI, then AD&D), but after a few years of that we saw other systems we wanted to try too. The lure of critical hits (before DnD had them)...

D&D 5E (2014) The Return of Tyranny of Dragons: First Impressions

That's a cogent, well researched, and fair assessment, Urriak. Thanks for that. I am perfectly fine leaving that as the last word on this issue: it seems both reasonable and comprehensive to me. What do we say folks? Can we use this to bury the hatchet, before it does any more d6s of damage?

D&D 5E (2014) The Return of Tyranny of Dragons: First Impressions

I know! These people, always asking for facts and evidence 'n stuff. The nerve!

D&D 5E (2014) The Return of Tyranny of Dragons: First Impressions

Ah, you're adding hyperbole to your repertoire of self-contradiction, ad hominem fallacies and baseless claims. That's quite a performance.

D&D 5E (2014) The Return of Tyranny of Dragons: First Impressions

Sacrosanct just showed you directly contradicting yourself. Do facts matter at all to you? Or do you normally just keep spewing stuff out till people leave the room?

D&D 5E (2014) The Return of Tyranny of Dragons: First Impressions

Again, the fact that it needed a reprint, as well as extensive errata before that (and even virtual apologies from the creators, who explained that the reason for some of the problems was they didn't have the final creature stats) is an indication the module had problems. Everyone can see that...
