How does one beef up damage dealt by 2nd lvl Wizard?

Wizards can't keep up with rangers in damage. Noone can. Rangers are strikers, wizards are controllers. They have completely different functions in combat. Just choose feats to boost the damage types you use, also items like the staff of ruin will help a lot. Could also consider dual implement...

    basic attack replacement & charge

"In place of" a basic attack indicates that it is not a basic attack, but replaces one for that situation. "As a" basic attack is just that, it becomes a basic attack.

    Assassin shroud damage

Mike Mearls already clarified that Shrouds are considered extra damage and are maxed on a crit. He clarified that on this very board after the class was released.

It's the class compendium, which is rumored to be cancelled. It doesn't appear on the 2011 catalog anymore.

Question about an elf ranger build

Trying to compare anything to a ranger for pure damage is a lesson in futility. They're the kings of DPR, but that's all they really have. Can get kinda boring, imo. Also, keep in mind, while you don't add your str or dex bonus to Twin Strike damage, you do add all other static modifiers. This...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

Rogues can't touch a ranger for pure damage output. Noone can. If your DM doesn't give up on this, makes LDB's stormwarden build. That'll REALLY make him cry, and beg you to play the rogue again.

Dragon 394: Executioner - at last! Was it worth the wait?

They don't need to use lighter weapons. They can function great using a bastard sword. Since the only requirement is a 1h weapon.

Dragon 394: Executioner - at last! Was it worth the wait?

It doesn't say it only works when the target is helpless. It says it is maximized if the target is helpless. Effect: The target takes 1d10 extra damage from the triggering attack. If the target is helpless, this damage is maximized.

D&D 4E 4E is too balanced - options to replace all martial dailies?

Martial dailies make more sense if you break it down into time actually spent fighting. Say the average fight lasts 6 rounds (36 seconds), and you have a 4 encounter day, one of which is a skill challenge. That's less than 2 minutes game time of actual fighting. Saying that you get that one...

I like some of essentials. The martial characters are horrible, though. For me, anyway. Huge step backwards for them.

The Value of my DDI Subscription

I'm basing my subscription on the finalized Executioner. My biggest gripe has been the Dragon magazine quality as of late, and the playtest of this looked fantastic. It really gave me hope that they hadn't lost all creativity. Then they released the "final" version this month. While it was a...
