D&D 5E (2014) Opening Page of the PHB

I don't see where people are seeing facial hair on the subject; the resolution is poor, but the sheen on the cheeks and chin seems to preclude it. Based on the build, this looks like a woman to me; a badass black woman on the first page of the Player's Handbook! Besides being a fine piece of art...

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L is up

Yeah, I get that, but it really robs a lot of value from ritual spells. If detect magic has to compete with other spells for prepared slots, a cleric is going to be hard-pressed to take it; although, with the greater number of prepared spells now (caster level + Wis mod), not as much as during...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Basic D&D pdf

To avoid download problems, Wizards could use a CDN to avoid most of the load on their own servers. I don't know if they've contracted with a CDN, but if they haven't, they should consider it for times like this.

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L is up

Huh, I didn't notice that restriction before. If it's still in the final rules, I believe I'll be house-ruling it out.

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L is up

If you want casters to have unlimited use of detect magic, you don't need to make it a cantrip. In the playtest at least, and hopefully in the final rules, detect magic can be cast as a ritual, so it doesn't need to be prepared. That means you don't need to spend a precious cantrip slot just to...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogue and Archer Character Sheets

Yeah, that seems like too much, especially to a fighting style that's already a good choice.

D&D 5E (2014) Rogue and Archer Character Sheets

My guess is that scale mail grants disadvantage to Stealth checks, as in the playtest, while a breastplate doesn't. Basically, the breastplate has taken the place of studded dragon leather, just as the chain shirt has taken the place of studded leather (which has been moved to light).

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L is up

Yeah, 30+ years later, and 2nd level still feels like a bit of a dud for magic-user/wizard spells. You'd think they could've thrown a scorching ray or sound burst in there, or Melf's acid arrow! (I love me the the "name" spells.) Excellent point.

    D&D 5E (2014) ... and we have a wizard!

Yes, but he was pointing out that a warm creature or object would also heat the air and other objects in contact with it, which would also radiate in the infrared, thus betraying its presence unless the invisibility or other effect also made its immediate surroundings invisible. The point being...

    D&D 5E (2014) ... and we have a wizard!

None of these things have changed since last August in the playtest (except that copying spells now takes twice as long); the cost of spell copying goes back further than that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

I think I agree with you. I'd also like Challenge to be easier to see. Say, right-justified toward the top of the stat block. Out of the way during combat, but easy to find when looking for monsters to build an encounter.

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Philosophy of 5e

Most people who play in person are not as rigidly dogmatic as many of us are when posting in forums. I've seen plenty of fans of one edition play a very different one just to get some play time in, and we aren't talking about that level of difference.

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Philosophy of 5e

I see all these as different. Weapon vs. armor type: This was a "bad" rule because, even if you wanted to emphasize the particularities of weapon/armor interaction, it was still a pain in the ass to use. Thus, hardly anyone used it, which made it ineffective for its intended use. The intent was...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L 6/23 A Living Rule Set

I share your desire for house-rulable (?) digital tools. The DDI tools were great for open play, but they really constrained what you could do in a customized home game. You do know you could download any characters you made, right? DDI-made characters weren't stuck in the cloud. There's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Excerpt 5

If this particular characteristic seems problematic, remember that it's established D&D lore that lots of goblins serve in hobgoblin armies and smaller troop formations. It seems reasonable that hobgoblin armorers would work to give their Small shock troops some measure of protection. Even for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Random Starter Set Teaser from Google+

Ideas for fixes, using the existing list as a base: Club: No changes, it can continue to be suboptimal; making damage 1d6 would still leave it that way, too Greatclub: 1d10 damage, like a non-versatile warhammer Javelin: Make it light, essentially the same as a handaxe Light hammer: 1d6...

    D&D 5E (2014) Random Starter Set Teaser from Google+

The base damages were the same in 3e (greataxe 1d12, greatsword 2d6), but the crits were different (greataxe 20/x3, great sword 19-20/x2), which was enough to fuzz the evaluation about which was better. The problem here is that there is no crit difference between the two (as far as we know...

    D&D 5E (2014) Random Starter Set Teaser from Google+

I think you've nailed it! (Seems like that should be a pun or something…) It takes 10 minutes extra to set up camp if no one has an axe to wield. And thus we get our first trope unique to 5e: the greataxe-wielding, campfire-building barbarian!
