How is D&D of any edition realistic?

The DM would have to choose that storyline where the epic hero has to go do some orc killing. As those orcs don't make interesting enemies for the heroes, I would say that the example is kind of pointless. My memory isn't perfect, but I did read something about a recommendation to keep enemies...

    What is "Opposite" for flanking?

Does it? I thought I read somewhere that if a creature is flanked in 4E, every enemy of the creature gets combat advantage. While in 3E it was only the flankers. I could very well be wrong, just asking out of curiosity.

Eladrins, Tieflings, Dragonborn Too Far Outside Standard Fantasy?

Thank you. I had missed that. Works very well for my purposes.

    German shop for 4.0

I normally always buy from Bookdepository these days (no LGS that is F enough to support anymore), and they have been fast, cheap and dependable. For 4th Edition I ended up going with www.bamm.com, as Bookdepository doesn't do preorders, and I doubt they will match that price. (Even though I had...

World setting, and your upcoming plans...

When the 4th edition announcement came I was working on my new campaign world. The concept was then "a world gone mad" where to make it simple it was on its way from something like Toril to something like Athas (FR and Dark Sun, for those less geeky). The important sources of power would come...

Eladrins, Tieflings, Dragonborn Too Far Outside Standard Fantasy?

I know they will have the doppelgangers, but I wish they would have chosen the changeling name instead. It simply feels less monstrous and more fairylike. I guess the MM versions of shifters and doppelgangers are better than nothing, but a PH treatment means stuff like racial feats which I think...

Eladrins, Tieflings, Dragonborn Too Far Outside Standard Fantasy?

One of my biggest problems with almost every D&D version is the races. Why? They are generally bland, and can easily just be exchanged with humans of different cultures. The first thing that made me happy about 4th edition was that the designers telling us that they saw that problem too. They...

How is D&D of any edition realistic?

Of course noone will come out and say that they have misunderstood something. If they did they wouldn't really have misunderstood it, would they? Myself I like minions as a game concept for combats. Discussing whether they are realistic or not is to me a bit absurd. Yes they die from any hit...

    D&D 4E I may have had a 4e epiphany...

So true. Honestly, I am not at all interested in MM fluff, because I see the fluff as my job as DM. A little hint as to what kind of environment they were thinking of when they created the creature is nice, anything more I will want to change anyway to make it fit with the world I am using...

    Minions: Known or Unknown?

As the minions themselves don't know that they are minions, I don't think it would be fair to let the PCs in on it. The way I see it, minions are just minions because they are unlucky. After all they can be just as dangerous with their attacks as other enemies. The difference is just that they...

GRZ 34 - Monster Roles Interview (Has new art, and various stat-boxes)

Having played and DMed all the earlier editions (apart from OD&D) quite a bit I would say that I do not agree with your assessment of the older editions. If I would keep it simple, it would be like this: BE... D&D: Fighting game, where you were encouraged to free wheel in some roleplaying...

GRZ 34 - Monster Roles Interview (Has new art, and various stat-boxes)

I will be frank. I have not been impressed with some of your posts on messageboards and some podcasts before. This post though, has me looking at you in a new light. Thank you, and I (like many others) agree: Clips like the one we talk about could be a great way to convey what is new and...

Distance and Time - also abstractions?

First of all, Í don't really care. :) I have no problem with movement and time being game abstractions and not reality. But if I try to be a bit simulationist, it actually still works. And it would work even if you replaced your standard action with a second move action. After all, if this is...

The Travesty! The Horror! Male Medusae.

If I had a problem with male medusae I would not even call it a houserule to ignore them. I mean, it is not like people will even notice if some creatures never show up in my campaign. Ok, someone could summon something I don't care for - but that would be from outside of my reality and only be...

    Help with KotS Wizard Pregen

Either Sleep or Acid Arrow, choose as you prepare each morning. And no, he only gets Utility and Encounter powers level 2 and 3. I don't know if it is possible to add more spells to the spellbook, and how - but it sounds like something that should be possible.

    Five Alignments?

True. But the point of my sarky suggestion was that it was all from a good hero's perspective and all basically about who you will fight and who will help you. In other words dumbed down to basically be a game about fighting.

Level 3 Keep on the Shadowfell character sheets

I think putting Utility powers in as Daily or Encounter powers will lead to confusion in the long run. I would put them under a separate heading. This is of real importance for the wizard, as daily powers can be chosen from a spellbook, which is not true of utility powers.

Clarification on Daily and Encounter Powers - HELP!

If I have read the excerpts correctly you would have the following wizard powers at third level: One Daily (in your case a choice from Sleep and Acid Arrow, to be made as you get up each morning - wizards have a spellbook, which means they can get these choices that other classes don't.) One...

    The troll art is up

They are all fairytale princesses, the way I see the picture. Fantasy art was a little bit different 100 years ago.

    The troll art is up

Being a Swede I have never liked any D&D portrayals of trolls. To me, and a whole lot of other Swedes this is what trolls look like. Still, these new pics are better than the old ones. (Remember 1st Edition original front cover of MM?)
