Having just read the GSL I can' help but think the new edition is closer then I thought earlier today. A huge part of 3.x success was the OGL and D20 as they were, now that they aren't there for 4e and Dragon and Dungeon are gone and the Digital Initiative isn't ready fro prime time yet...

It means you must comply with any other 3pp as they wish you to each and every case will be up to the originators of the material.

RPGs don't do any such thing, bad GMs do.

CRPGs have hard and certain limits, RPGs really don't. I can't decide I want to move to a small village and become a charcoal burner in a CRPG but I can in an RPG. Of course having the DM not beat me to death with a Mt Dew bottle might be a tricky matter. In an real RPG I can keep playing...

A buddy and I used to use the random charts in AD&D to DM for each other at the same time as we each PC'd in the same dungeon. It was fun. We just made a gentleman's agreement to never attack each other with our PCs.

Under d20 ish rules I'd have the rogue make a Bull Rush attack to knock the Ogre backwards into the flames while swining from a rope. If there was a enough of a swing from the rope I'd give the rogue a bonus to the STR check for the force of the swing. Maybe even simply let the rogue do the...

The rules dont' say they don't use magic items they simply provide a mechanism for one to abstract the use of magic items. I find that ...uh awful, terrible, bland.
