    RPG Piracy

What would I do? Nothing because WotC isn't big enough to stop that kind of stealing. Which leads me to another point: the books aren't overpriced in terms of how much it costs to make them. Seriously. RPG products have very low print runs. But look at other books that are roughly the same...

    Light rules systems.

http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/risus.htm RISUS is the rules-lightiest that I know of that still uses dice. But you also may want to do a search for FUDGE.

    RPG Piracy

Perhaps. But RPG sales are really small. IIRC, if a PDF sells around 500 it's done very well and the typical number is about 100. So even five purchases are statiscally significant. The market is better for paper products, obviously. But my point is that is doesn't take much to have a...

[OT] Origin of the term "Splat" book

A * is a "wildcard" character in computing. It is sometimes called a "splat" instead of an "astrix". So instead of saying fighterbook, wizardbook theifbook, clericbook, and druidbook, some people started calling them *books or splatbooks. I have no idea who started doing this, but I'm...

    Party Conflict

Our group takes kind of a wussy attitude toward that. We don't permit evil characters and it is incumbent on the player to create a character that would tend to be in a group. We still get some pretty neat characters out of that. I'm playing a fighter/rogue that has already met the PrC...

    RPG Piracy

What I don't understand about RPG piracy is the sheer volume of stuff that's given away for free. Between WotC, the major d20 companies, and ENWorld there is nothing stopping a gaming group from going from 1 to 20. With the addition of the d20 Modern SRD it isn't even hard to build a rather...

    Sonic Damage Equalization

I realize the thread specifically mentioned the core rules, but if you check out "Manual of the Planes" you'll see the templates for Axiomatic (lawful outsiders) and Anarchic (chatotic outsdiers). They have sonic resistance. Something to consider to have your bad guys ally with.

    The Best Bow...

I was thinking along the same lines. What if the cleric is busy getting eaten or something? +5 with fire damage and holy damage "extras". That should cover most nasty critters.

    piratecat = chairman mao ??

No, no! I've read Piratecat's book on how to build a better society and there's nothing in there about him being Mao.

    Invisibility (my players keep out)

I agree, that it isn't inheriently violent. But this is a direct action, not an indirect one. I'm not going to play devil's advocate very hard because I'm inclined to agree. But again, I just wanted to make sure I was cool so I could have the guy do other stuff. The pick pocket check is...

    Invisibility (my players keep out)

From the SRD: OK, what I'd like to do is have an invisible NPC shove a note in a character's pocket. This isn't really an attack. But the invisible guy is touching the PC and I'd like to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before the encouter begins. Are there any in the peanut gallery...

    Worst DM judgement calls

disease-pointless vs. 5th or higher lvl party?

The Cleric/Druid still has to take the time to memorize the spell. You're basically saying that after the party rests the cleric has to start out with a spell cast to deal with a problem from the previous encounter. And if the party decides to wait until they get back to town and the cleric...

    Character build

    With those stats you could make a very nice paladin or monk. But I'd personally go with a 1/2 Orc cleric. S 18 + 2 = 20 D 12 C 15 I 15 - 2 = 13 W 18 Ch 14 -2 = 12 You'll have not-embarassing turn undead abilties and you'll do well in combat. Load up on the armor and your low DEX won't...

Morrus, I sent you money via paypal around mid-December. Is that all good? I'm not really concerned with a delay as long as ENWorld gets its bucks.

    A new combat mage spell

I think this is OK given that the range is "personal". This would be NASTY if cast on a fighter with a halberd or something like that.
