Legends and Lore: Preserving the Past

I would say it's the perfect place. People will read it because of who it's written by even if they ignore everything else on the site. I think that's the very reason for giving the column to Monte in the first place. So start off talking about things that are awesome. The fact that Monte is...

House Rules in the Character Builder

I'm not judging anyone, or indicating if their complaints are justified or not. Just stating what happens. People cry bloody murder about X not being here, but then pretty much forget about it all once thing does arrive. (And tend to get happy at least for a bit.) So you can either listen to...

Legends and Lore: Preserving the Past

Oh... that's not what I was saying. I meant that the players have moved more towards the RAW is "correct" way of thinking.

Legends and Lore: Preserving the Past

Yep- D&D has a long history of being somewhat amorphous. It is whatever the particular group wants it to be. Somewhere along the way the idea that doing it in one particular way, or by one set of rules, is the ONLY way it can be has gotten more en vogue. I think Monte is also trying to help...

House Rules in the Character Builder

My guess is still that they're building the different features into different areas of the tool. I'm still guessing they will put the functionality to build stuff from scratch into the Adventure Tools. The two will link allowing the player to pick stuff from his DM's custom creations. As for...

Legends and Lore: Preserving the Past

I kind of wonder if the audience he's reaching out to might not be the ones whom have ALSO not opened a 4e book, but are also already making assumptions? (Also think about this... Some people just get excited about something just because their favorite designer, writer, artist, whatever, talks...

House Rules in the Character Builder

Just playing with the powers thing, looks like it just adds the ability to assign extra powers to the character correct? (IE there isn't a feature that lets you build said extra power from scratch right?)

    Abstract Ideas

Do you make up these questions, Mr. Oldtimer? Or do they write 'em down for you? ;) I think what Camelot is trying to ask is if people are upset about the idea of "winging it."

    Legand & Lore: Magic Items

Not about the pluses. He's talking about decoupling the magic item power from what the game takes into consideration when balancing PC power level vrs Challenges and such regardless of being + x. Which is fine- I'm all for, but at the same time I'd like a system that allows you to see what...

    Legand & Lore: Magic Items

I'm with you so far Nemesis. I like the idea, but not if it moves us away from the idea of balance. I would be onboard though if they worked out a system that indicated how adding X item to the game changes power level though... That way I could decide how to work the balance for my own games.

How many people subscribe to D&D stuff?

Also if you're willing to believe (without any evidence) that one company is inflating numbers then either you're being biased, or you're willing to believe ALL companies are doing so. In which case then it's meaningless.

D&D 5E (2014) Should I bother to subscribe to DDI if 5e is coming?

I don't mind speculation- it can be fun... But the anger and fighting and general negativity that seems to be arm in arm with it lately bums me out.

Mike Mearls and Lisa Stevens should have an arranged marriage like they did back in the day to settle feuds between royal houses. I know Mearls is already married but hey... Harem!

Wotc online monster builder can build monsters from scratch.

Monster builder is just a tool. It doesn't make you more creative and it doesn't make you less creative. Just like a guitar doesn't make you able to play music, or cause you to no longer be able to make music. I personally think it helps me more easily throw something together without a lot of...

D&D 5E (2014) Should I bother to subscribe to DDI if 5e is coming?

Yeah that kind of goes towards my point- no matter what they say, when people have made up their minds to believe what they want to believe they will believe it. They could come on and say we're not working on 5e. Suddenly you'd have umpteen billion posts about how they're FINISHED with 5e and...

D&D 5E (2014) Should I bother to subscribe to DDI if 5e is coming?

You really think that's true? I don't- they could come right out and say what they were doing and 5 minutes later someone would point out the "hidden meaning behind what they said..." Plus Monte Cook himself said this on his site regarding his employment at WoTC: While I'm at it, let me also...

    D&D 5E (2014) I want to add a 5E rumor!!

Worst thing about the 5e rumors is now we have to hear them for like 3 more years until we get to the magic year they say it will be released. :(
