    D&D 4E PEACH: 4e epic solo

If you don't have line of sight or line of effect outside of the aura, you already cannot teleport out. The only way I see would be for the epic destiny (the name escape me) who can do rituals as standard action. Personally I think if it had reach 5 it could retain threatening reach. Since...

"Banking" retraining - Rules clarification needed

It's use it or lose it. Otherwise a character could retrain everyone of their feats to paragon feats as soon as he got to level 11. CharOP forum would have been using that opportunity for a long time if it was at all possible.

    Level Up!

Over the course of a level, the DM who follow the guideline will have to give x magic item, x gold pieces, about 10 encounters, etc. Since I started 4th edition I planned my games 1 level at a time. Started by making a list of the item and other treasures I would give out during the level...

XP is way too high in 4th Edition!

In 2nd edition there was xp guideline per player in addition to all the xp gained from killing monster. Everyone got 1 xp per gp of treasure, casters got 100xp/spell level casted in a useful way, warrior got 25xp/HD of the monster they killed solo, rogue got twice the xp for treasure and only...

    Awesome solo monster fight

Against the Apocalypse terror, I would say either swarm him with melee attack (the only thing not affected by archer bane and also his horrible AC compared to his other defenses) or simply magic missile him to death from range 20. If the striker(s) is anything except a melee striker (and not a...

    Warden Goliath Polearm Stoneblessed PP

The Eternal defender epic destiny level 24 feature also gives you +1 reach (and bigger weapon). Requires fighter, but a goliath stoneblessed eternal defender fighter (or MC fighter) with a reach weapon has reach 4 all day long. Warden has 3 form that gives +1 reach. Oak sentinel (9), Rowan...

The Ultimate Dragon (Slaying) Quest - best level?

My take on a dragon-weakening artifact would be something that would make her younger. Take her from Elder red to Adult red, maybe temporarily. If they knew the effect is temporary, they would be stressed because of the need to kill her quickly before she regains all her powers.

    D&D 4E 4e limit of beatability

I had an idea while reading this thread. What if only the character related to the ongoing fight could uses his daily. That particular character would look awesome for his own storyline, and it would partly eliminate the problem of the 5 minutes workday.

    Starting without equipment

As a DM I converted the introduction dungeon from D&D basic to 4th edition, which had the PC starting locked in a cell deep in a dungeon. The rogue was puny, the fighter was cleaving with his fists, and the druid...well not having equipment didn't affect her at all. The rogue quickly took...

Gabe (Penny Arcades) take on Essentials Red Box

Using pirates to protect the book against ninjas might work, but the pirates will just run away with the booty. The books will be intact, but now only pirates will be able to play old 4th d&d.

    Classes and the Thievery Skill

My halfling wild sorcerer actually started at level 4, but our DM limited us to PH1 and 2 only. For the 3 feats I took Sorcerous blade channeling, sneak of shadow and implement expertise (light blade). I wielded a Subtle dagger+1 for a long while, but I was getting that extra +1 most of the...

    Classes and the Thievery Skill

Let's not forget the old forgotten wild sorcerer who MC to rogue. With Sorcerous Blade Channeling you can even use the SA. Halfling makes the perfect choice for this as CHA/DEX and +2 racial to thievery.

Force Damage and Insubstantial. Is it just an old memory or actual rule?

You are thinking about an 11th level feat, Inescapable Force, from PH1. When you use a power that has the force keyword, you deal full damage (instead of half damage) against insubstantial creatures, and that power deals an extra 1d10 damage to such creatures.

Cloaker grab is hard to escape

Now I am really disappointed. The only thing really punishing about this grab is that being dazed mean that you won't be doing anything other than escaping on your turn. As a lurker the cloaker has bad defenses already, and the target of the cloaker will just find the fight to be a long and...

Cloaker grab is hard to escape

As a DM, I think I just fell in love with a creature that is not even an elite but that I would consider a "threat" even as a single monster encounter. Let me quote part of the power: While the target is grabbed by the ambusher, it is blinded, dazed, restrained, and takes ongoing 10 damage...

    Let there be light!

That shadow slime just reminded me of the Shadow Hound. They have an aura 5 power (Shroud of night) which reduces bright light to dim light and dim light to darkness. A couple of these mixed with other monsters always make for a cool night ambush. The campfire suddenly doesn't provide much...

    Let there be light!

I had two occasions as a DM where lighting was actually a useful tool. The PC were escaping from a prison atop a tower and couldn't use torch to light their way otherwise the light could be seen from outside and they really didn't want to attract undue attention. The guards were goblins and...

    What Skills are Underused?

In the campaign I played, I trained my sorcerer in thievery and never regretted it. Thievery is a skill where the player as to come up with ways to use it instead of just the DM pointing it out. Sure you can disarm traps and lockpick door. Stealthily lockpicking a door is an almost sure way...

    An enrage like ability

Take a look at the werewolf's disease from the MM, Moon frenzy. I don't have the books with me, and the compendium is not helping much, but if I remember correctly the intermediate stage at the character making random melee basic attack on ally, and the final stage was a complete rage, treating...

    Power Combo Question

This reminds me of the first BBG fight I DM in 4th edition, against a bunch of minion led by a shaman. That ability to redirect an attack to an adjacent lower level goblin was really useful, but then I set the wizard up for that. The entire combat moved around the room, finally creating a...
