    realistic vs. cliche cultures

Hmmmm.... Realistic? Monsters cavorting across the land? Demons raising armies of conquest? Mages with the power to shoot lightning bolts from their arses? (australian spelling used for the weak-of-heart) Flumpfs?? The whole point is to ESCAPE reality. Not have a lovely time at harvest...

Love, dating, and Dr. Midnight: the saga continues

Doc, Keep a stiff upper lip.... This is one of your old roundies again. Don't give up on the personals....not sure if you knew, but I married the little lady I met on www.matchmaker.com, and I'm living happily in the Arizona desert. Heck, you may even want to put the word "gamer" in your ad...

    Dead Zone...

I just got done watching the repeat of the 2nd episode. Really good so far....I'm just wondering how it'll do after they run out of plot that was in the original novel. Seems to me that they've got about 6-8 more episodes of that stuff, then it's on to uncharted territory.

    [OT] SciFi/Fantasy reading material suggestions?

Starfish was excellent. Add that to my list. Another great read is Warchild by Karin Lowachee. I also tend to read most of the World of Darkness series (except for Clan Novel: Malkavian...boy, was that an incomprehensible mess) I've read all of the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton...

I finally checked my delivery confirmation: Your item was delivered at 8:54 am on June 15, 2002 in RENTON, WA 98057 That was FAST! It took less than 2 days to arrive. I guess that means my submission has already been read, and is now a) in the circular file b) on some WoC staff dartboard...

[Poll] What races have you played so far in 3e?

Multiple humans halfling gnome dwarf 1/2 giant (home-brew....my longest character) wemic ....and although I hate elves, I did play a gold elf once who would have been a a very cool character (played just the way I feel all elves are: arrogant, pompous putzes) if he hadn't nuked himself and a...

    [OT] SciFi/Fantasy reading material suggestions?

Glad to see I started something.... :D Coupla comments. I somewhat agree with the fact that Robert J. Sawyer's earlier books were very flat, but he is getting better, and I never fail to finish his books with the sensation that I have learned something unique. Jack Chalker - one of my guilty...

    Weak Elves? ...Why?

Here's my reasoning.... Elves are scrawny ....hence they break like twigs .....hence the -2 to Constitution. Have I mentioned that I really dislike elves????

    Neglected Underdark races

I can't believe I forgot to put Aboleth on the poll. D'oh!! I guess that's the short end of the stick.

$20K (or a possible 120K) for your soul?

You're so right. I'd much rather have my creative soul wither and atrophy inside my precious little head than actually attempt to display it to the world. My chances of becoming a game designer or an author or a screenwriter or an all around cool guy increase exponentially when I do it by my...

    [OT] SciFi/Fantasy reading material suggestions?

Since we all obviously have an interest in these genres, I'd like some suggestions from y'all of new or lesser known books/series that you think everyone should read. Here are my suggestions: Fallen Dragon by Peter F. Hamilton The Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton Hominids by Robert J...

    Neglected Underdark races

I probably should have described Rom better, since they are extremely obscure. Rom are an extremely rare race of undead deep giants, with skin coloration similar to drow and duergar. I've seen them once or twice in old D&D publications...one was a Dungeon adventure. I can't remember what...

    Neglected Underdark races

Many people have noted how tired they are of the drow. I'm not among them, but I feel that many other underdark races have fallen by the wayside. Which race do you feel should be the focus of a Dragon magazine much like the Drow one that should be out any day now?

    What is Awakened?

Awakened creatures are generally non-magical beasts (i.e. wolf, bear, hawk, shark) that have had their intelligences magically enhanced to a sentient level. They can then gain class levels. This can happen through a number of methods. The druid spell mentioned in the post above... godly...

Potential Player to DM: "What Is Your Mortality Rate?"

Generally a PC death is very infrequent in my world....maybe 1 in every 15-20 runs. Most likely this is due to 2 house rules I use a) Death occurs when a PC passes negative CON, not -10. It just makes sense to me that hardier individuals would cling to life longer. b)If a player is at EXACTLY...
