    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

I think Ganymede suggested a cap for the sum.

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

I thought about this, and because I wasn't sure it would be balanced, I did include in the feat a restriction to melee weapons that did not have the heavy property. Yes, it is mostly a limitation of mine. D&D has most often been a simplified system, it is not an attempt at simulation and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

Did anybody suggest something on these lines? I think I missed it. So far we have seem +5 (from a combination of str and dex) + prof or + 2 x prof (which would go past +11 but only to +12 and only at level 17, so no big deal, at least for me).

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

Yes, I know, I even mentioned on the original post. It was just an attempt to make odd atribute scores relevant, but I should admit, it was a lame attempt. Now, this is really interesting. Another poster had the symmetrically opposite opinion, namely why should an optimizer not take the feat...

D&D 5E (2014) How much Warlord do you want?

I think I am very a very limited creature, because I really don't get the warlord appeal.

D&D 5E (2014) WTF Wizards of the Coast? *RANT* (video link)

Strahd awakens managed to suck away some of the love I had for the saga.

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

The requirement is even a nice quirk. I am just not too convinced about the proficiency in improvised weapons part, as there is already another feat for that.

D&D 5E (2014) What new classes do you think we need?

My 2 cents on that. I wouldn't go as far as claiming them almost inappropriate for any fantasy setting, and from a mechanical perspective I really enjoy the class, but I don't feel comfortable with them in every scenario I DM/play. In some fictional settings I just expect that equipment matters...

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

So not just the proficiency bonus, but a sort of expertize but dropping the atribute bonus, in the same way 77IM proposed, but for free? It seems a really solid idea, and way simpler than what I was thinking. Definitely manages to drop the pressure from having higher primary stats, at least at...

D&D 5E (2014) Feats, class balance and fun

I know too many "hard-coded" action options can somewhat inhibit some players and DMs from employing the basic ruleset to improvise actions and keep a more open type of game. I guess I am fortunate enough to play on a table where such inhibition generally does not happen. Apart from that, a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

Just proficiency bonus, starting from +2 and capping at +6? This would change a lot the power curve of the game wouldn't it? And also affects the balance between save spells and attacks in general.

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

Ok, I didn't notice this would be a dominating option. As it is not possible to go beyond what one can already get from the normal progression (+5 to att and dmg), I would suppose you are analyzing the one ABI discount to maximize the attack? It seems to me not the dominating option for PCs...

D&D 5E (2014) Feats, class balance and fun

Well, at higher levels they do get to use these feats more often, but surely it is not always on. The enemies sometimes have defensive reactions, or are deliberately fighting defensively while the heavy hitters are protected, or something else, that prevents their use to be optimal. Now, even...

This idea is awesome, and much simpler, I really like it!

D&D 5E (2014) Feats, class balance and fun

At my table these feats have never been a problem and aren't even very popular, but I can notice from several other forum threads they seem troublesome for some tables. One of my players once commented that he found it really silly that a feat could make difficult and easy shots completely...

D&D 5E (2014) How did you handle the Aarakocra?

While I do favor the older design, specially the drawings from the second Dark Sun box, with only four limbs instead of six, I should point out that, originally, the Aarakocra could use their feet as hands while flying, at least as far as I can remember.

    Social Checks in Combat

For simplicity sake I would define a DC based on the creature, circumstances and what the player is trying to accomplish. I disfavor opposed rolls as often as I can, because they are too swingy and may make resolution more complex than it really deserves.

    D&D 5E (2014) Idea for a new feat - Martial Flexibility

From another thread, I expressed my desire to open the possibilities of more well-balanced martials attribute-wise, and another poster suggested the following: Afterwards I started thinking about the idea and came up with this: Martial flexibility Prerequisite: Strength 15 or higher, 6th...
