D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Almost 40 sessions into my 13th Age campaign. Eyes of the Stone Thief expanded to cover all 10 levels. Five player characters on the cusp of 5th level. I've not been posting regular updates, but we are playing on the regular. Since I last posted, a lot has happened. The characters: Were...

How do you handle gems as a GM?

I want to be this guy: "You find an onyx worth 50 gp and two opals, each worth 75 gp." In reality I'm this guy: "The troll's treasure totals 137gp each. Let's take a short break. I need to pee."

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

Time to introduce my 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son to D&D. I wanted to wait for the new Starter Set to come out...but I've decided to jump in with Shadowdark. Excited to get started later this month!

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Really dig the new Hexblade. Huge improvement over the original. Hope I get a chance to play a Pact of the Blade Hexblade with a blade and named Blade.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I dig the design and art in these books...a lot. The 1920s vibe is how Eberron always looked in my head.

D&D 5E (2014) If you could run or play in any D&D 5e campaign right now, which would it be?

In no particular order: Gamma World. Really, really, really wish WotC would publish a 5E version. Even a single book would make me happy. Star Wars. Tempted by the FFG system... Twilight 2000. I was a player in a campaign that went almost 9 months and I'd love to do it again. Eclipse Phase...

D&D 5E (2014) If you could run or play in any D&D 5e campaign right now, which would it be?

It's a great adventure. I've only read it. Would love to play it. Not sure I am the right kind of DM to run it...but who knows?

Daggerheart Reveals Ranger Class Preview (Exclusive)

This is the only preview of Daggerheart mechanics I've seen and I like it. Seems like classes are structured somewhat like Shadow of the Demon Lord, or some combo of SotDL and D&D. I wonder how it plays at the table.

It's not my house. I just bought it. Huge difference.

You know what I bet Crawford won't miss? Getting personally attacked by strangers on the internet.

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

IIRC it was reported somewhere here on the forums that the upcoming Forgotten Realms campaign setting would have stat blocks for evil drow and orcs. Maybe we can all just chill and see what comes.

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

Sounds like it played as the encounter guidelines predicted. For 3 PCs of 5th level, a CR5 creature is just past Low difficulty and slightly into Moderate. Per the DMG: "As a rough guideline, a single monster generally presents a low-difficulty challenge for a party of four characters whose...

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

It saddens me to see the visionaries who created 5E (my favorite version of D&D) leave. Mearls, Perkins, and now Crawford. Being a creative lead in a large company like Hasbro isn't easy. I'm sure they've had their share of hard days. And most of them were at WotC for 15 years or longer. Even...

D&D 5E (2024) Eye Tyrant. Who Died and Made You Gygax?? Design Your Own D&D 2024X3.

You can pick up the PDF of Shadow of the Demon Lord or Shadow of the Weird Wizard at a reasonable price. I dig it a lot. It's simpler and more flavorful than 5E...but not as simple as Shadowdark. Shadowdark is a bit too simple for my tastes. I want to like it more than I do.

D&D 5E (2024) Eye Tyrant. Who Died and Made You Gygax?? Design Your Own D&D 2024X3.

I'll bite. On the player side, I'd modify 5E to be more like Shadow of the Demon Lord. What does that mean? All subclasses would grant abilities at the same level. That opens up design space to have subclasses that work across every class, such as species-based subclasses, organizational-based...
