D&D 5E (2014) Monk unarmed strike count as weapons?

The main reasons the unarmed strike has them tied in linguistic knots are: - the majority of non-spell attacks and combat abilities are intended to be only used when wielding an actual weapon in hand, such as Duelling Fighting Style (this is why the word "weapon" is used in the term "melee...

D&D 5E (2014) Monk unarmed strike count as weapons?

The errata says: “Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an un-armed strike: a punch, kick, head-butt, or similar forceful blow (none of which count as weapons). On a hit, an unarmed strike deals bludgeoning damage equal to 1 + your Strength modifier. You are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Running Old School adventures for 5e

I've run When a Star Falls (UK4 I think?), which was fun, but a lot of old FF monsters that aren't necessarily in the 5e core books - derro*, gibberlings, for example. Bit of testicular torsion to convert but doable. It was quite tough for the party, and I adjusted the two red dragon surprise to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two Weapon Fighting

I wasn't trying to be patronising, I was trying to show clarification. I may have misunderstood your intent, but have not resorted to "L2R" style childish comments. However, you want maths, ok. One extra attack RAW: (2d6+2*mod)+(1d6+mod) +1 Mod: (7+2)+(3.5+1) = 13.5 +2 Mod: (7+4)+(3.5+2) =...

Really? "learn to read"? Don't be so rude. There is no need for that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Two Weapon Fighting

See the Sage Advice quote from Mike Mearls in my last post, that explains quite explicitly that you only get ONE attack from a Bonus Action, any multiple attacks are only taken on your Action. Sorry, your house rule is massively overpowered and does break the combat round.

    D&D 5E (2014) Two Weapon Fighting

Couple of things: 1. Extra Attack doesn't break anything, you can take one Action. If you take the Attack Action, you may make as many individual Attacks within that Action as your class/race/feats allow. Most classes can use the Attack Action to make one Attack; certain classes (eg Fighter)...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many hands does a fighter-mage type need?

Problem may be solved. You just need some bling headwear. Mearls himself reckons that while the intent is to touch it, he would allow this solution.

    D&D 5E (2014) How many hands does a fighter-mage type need?

Yep, sheathing or drawing a weapon can only be done as part of your Move or your Action. You can't do either as a Bonus Action or as a Reaction. I'd suggest that the Arcane Focus for this would be the better solution than the component pouch. Build your spell casting focus into the hilt or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two Weapon Fighting

I was originally posting about Two Weapon Fighting which is open to all, rather than the Fighter-specific TWF fighting Style, but, that said... What your house rule does is to break the basic structure of the combat round, which allows only one Bonus Action (ie Offhand Attack) per round...

Watch Chris Perkins' First Episode of DICE, CAMERA, ACTION

The asking to make checks thing bugged me, too. I'd prefer a "I want to investigate X" - "Looking for anything in particular?" - "Trying to see if the doodad shows any links to the hoodjamaflip that NPC Name mentioned" - "Ok, roll..." ... Than "I make an investigation check, I rolled a 19...

Watch Chris Perkins' First Episode of DICE, CAMERA, ACTION

I watched the first one of the WotC twitch and I was ... Bored. Lack of engagement, lack of any sense of character bar the paladin, whose character is kind of irritating. If the other three also conveyed a character then hers wouldn't seem so overpowering and consequently the "tone down the RP"...

    D&D 5E (2014) Casting with Shield - Bard Style

Apart from the fluff intro which I quoted before the more mechanical class information states that... Spellcasting You have learned to untangle and reshape the fabric of reality in harmony with your wishes and music. Spellcasting Ability Your magic comes from the heart and soul you pour into...
