    D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote these CRs?

Just for the triple post: I also alternate between 2 DM styles that work fine with CR as it exists: either I tailor everything so much that wouldn't dream of trying to drop in monsters without carefully vetting how they will interface with the party... Or I create a sandbox where I don't give a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote these CRs?

Expounding a little more: the reason teleport doesn't effect CR is the same reason monster speed doesn't effect CR. Yeah, technically you can give a monster 500ft. Speed at no CR change. Which would make the monster almost invincible to many parties. But... What's the alternative? How much...

    D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote these CRs?

Yeah, I find it's best to use that table the same way the designers did: make a monster first, with HP, damage, abilities, etc. Then plug it into the table and see what CR is spit out. Don't design from the table; design it yourself, and use the table to check your work.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fifth Age: A hard science fiction 5e conversion

I wonder if the 7,000,000 people bitching over in the main 5e forum about the lack of warlords have seen your Officer class. The Captain is all the warlord I could ever ask for.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fifth Age: A hard science fiction 5e conversion

Still working on this? I really love this rule set. I'm super impressed with what you did with the classes in particular, to the point that I might be inclined to lightly reskin a few of the subclasses and use them in a grittier non-sci-fi game, even.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes and pillar coverage

Away from book, but I think a couple legitimate archetype features of the Old One warlock have no major combat application.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4d6 Drop the Lowest Etiquette

Did you see the option I suggested on the first page? Might work well for you, given your concerns.

    D&D 5E (2014) Who wrote these CRs?

The other day a party of 4 PCs, all 5th level, took on a two part encounter that consisted of roughly the following: half a dozen will-o-wisps, a beefed up Night Hag (she had Maze!), a dozen zombies with minor buffs, and a zombie fire giant. The party prevailed with zero deaths, zero KOs...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4d6 Drop the Lowest Etiquette

My favorite method is for everyone to roll a single set, and then each of those sets is an optional array that anyone can pick. If one person rolls a clear best, everyone takes it and nobody gets overshadowed, but you still have the fun and unique qualities of random rolls. But even better is...

D&D 5E (2014) Some thoughts after more time with the game...

Using the DMG random treasure guidelines, you guys ended up with so many +AC items (even factoring in attunement) that you needed to reign in stacking? That's. Really surprising. I hope you realize your group is an extreme outlier, in that case. Statistically, nobody is going to have your...

D&D 5E (2014) Some thoughts after more time with the game...

Example of monsters that have incorrect attack bonuses for their CR? I suspect you are confused about how monster proficiency bonus is determined. It's based on CR, not HD. If your DM introduced too many magical sources of AC, I can see that restricting stacking might be useful. This is...

    Vitality Dice: A damage variant

Well, except that in D&D AC in heavy armor gets pretty good. Being hit is a lot harder. Your Defense caps out at 15, 17 with a shield... A full 3 points lower than AC in D&D, and with way fewer paths to get there. Ignoring specialist stuff like Defense (because I don't know how that will be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Converting characters recommendations

Converting into 4e is a chore, especially for magic-using classes. You need to find a way to emulate the feel while having zero mechanics or spells in common. Even for non magic users it can be tough to figure out which of several hundred power options most closely represent the...

D&D 5E (2014) What classes do you want added to 5e?

My mistake, I assumed they got added in later supplements. Pathfinder then? There are so many systems with an overbuilt glut of options already; do we need another?

D&D 5E (2014) What classes do you want added to 5e?

Yikes. Why not just play 4e?

    Vitality Dice: A damage variant

In some home brews I've enjoyed having armor DR expressed as a die roll to represent coverage/hit location... Sometimes the blow catches you full on in the joint, other times it glances off the breastplate. However, we already have rolling DR, and adding more rolls would slow things down more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

Just imagine it like the wizard duel in one of the Conan flicks. Two wizards staring at each other with really intense expressions, groaning, until eventually one of them slumps in defeat and his side falls back. Or not. That scene always cracked me up.

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor - Editions - There Can be Only One

Bolares thanks for the fix! But it looks like it ignores my vote for 5e? Edit: ah cool thanks lowkey that looks good.

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor - Editions - There Can be Only One

Aww, there goes 4e's last death save. Oh well. It was inevitable, and deserved. I'm on mobile and the formatting is a pain; someone else post a numbers fix? Sacrosanct ninja'd me when I was fumbling with the color codes.
