    DM forced to spread attacks

If a creature can kill a character in one round, and the characters are higher than 1st level, then the encounter is definitely too high for them. Any time the GM has to pull his punches or change his strategy because a monster hits too hard, then he's done something wrong.

Fight Your Own Summon for XP, would you allow it?

You know what solves this question line? Player: What the hell?! Why did you send some Summons Keeper after us?! GM: Why? Maybe because you were using your summons as a punching bag. Player: You didn't say that I couldn't though, so I figured it was a good idea. GM: My job isn't to tell...

Fight Your Own Summon for XP, would you allow it?

I would allow the Summoner to call a creature and then have the party fight it. However, once the creature was attacked I would take control of it as its caster has turned against it. I would also not give XP for the kill, plus I would hamper the use of the summon spell - Similar to a paladin...

Making guns palatable in high fantasy [Design Theory]

Exactly why I think Pathfinder did it right with giving firearms touch attack for their first range increment. My only issue with guns in D&D has been their cost. However, that can be easily changed by the GM as firearms become more commonplace.

Advice wanted: taking over a Kingmaker campaign

Completely agree here. I've used the Warpath mass combat rules and they work like a gem!

Starting up a Monsters & Other Childish Things game. Suggestions?

Well, I'm looking for this to be a complete one-off and kind of a break from our usual D&D fair, so most likely something a little more light-hearted and joking than a deep and dark romp through the shadow-verse. I'm also going to look through PS238 - This looks like it could provide some good...

Starting up a Monsters & Other Childish Things game. Suggestions?

That's actually a pretty good idea. I think I need a little more of a sandbox feel to this game then a regimented campaign. Not my most comfortable game type for a first-run but with enough prep, hopefully it'll do.

Starting up a Monsters & Other Childish Things game. Suggestions?

I'm about to start up a Monsters & Other Childish Things game, but reading through all of my materials it seems that campaigns aren't quite like the usual D&D fair. In fact, I haven't been able to find a "this is a M&OTC campaign" but rather "this are the materials you can use to create a...

    Your Magic Is Killing Us

I actually use a dice roll system instead of the static DC. This way the caster has a bit more active combat and there is now that more random chance that the martial characters have.

Training peasants to fight in a pinch

Considering that a usual city or town guard is considered a level 1 warrior, I would still stat a group of hastily trained commoners as such. Even with training, they have no real-life experience putting their techniques to the test, thus they don't really have the experience to acquire a...

    High-Tech Forces vs. High-Magic Forces

I'm pretty sure that if you put a group of 5th level wizards against a military company that magic would win over tech. Just look at the spell lists: Dimensional Door, Ball Lightning, Mass Fly, Fiendform, Death Throes, Metal Melt, Forcewave, Orb of Force, Dragon Polymorph, Wall of Force. A...

    High AC normal?

The way I've always seen it is a 4-man team of <level X> should be able to take down a CR <x> encounter with moderate ease.

What are your favorite changes in Pathfinder over 3.X?

For me it's the archetypes. I love the variations on each class and the choices that it gives the players. You could have a party made up completely of bards and have four completely different characters.

    High AC normal?

Completely agree Nebten and thundershot - Especially since Pathfinder as some great campaigns ranging the gambit of levels, even starting them at 1 and running all the way to 20. No better way to experience a game than to run through the entire thing.

    Permanency Spell Questions

There is also the Dust of Dissapearance, though it has a random length of effect. Other than that, you could also ask your DM if you could have an item crafted, such as a cloak of invisibility or the like?

    High AC normal?

This is why I prefer to play in low-magic settings, where the magic items are limited. IMO a PC should not have an AC as high as a solo of the same level - If a character can go toe-to-toe with an equal CR than there is something off.

Litterboxes: Tell us about your crappy Sandbox experiences

I agree that is was a piece of minutia that I could have simply glossed over and said "OK, sit you sit down and this is what is in your bags" but I was hoping that they would take the initiative on this one. And in terms of them heading the correct direction - They purposefully headed south...

    Learning on the Road

I'm not a huge fan of retconning the campaign like that though. I feel that them suddenly belonging to some secret organization this entire time slightly diminishes the affect of said club. I do see eye-to-eye in terms of how people level in their chosen class - They've had enough experience...

    Learning on the Road

I'm going to be running into an issue that I have yet to encounter as a GM - leveling outside of civilization. I will be running a modified AD&D X Module (Master of the Desert Nomads) and the players will be traveling in the wilderness for possibly several months. They will also hopefully be...

    Finally started my campaign.

See, I guess I'm just not thinking of them having actual encounters with him during the leveling process. In my mind it's more that he'd pop in, say "foolish mortals", summon a bunch of uglies and then disappear. I think that it'd be much more fun for the players if they were able to see an...
