I like 5e. It is an edition themed on story, for Dungeons & Dragons. When you compare it with the average RPG, D&D is still a rule-heavy game, in my opinion.
Alright, but let's be coherent and give spells to Fighters, Rogues and Barbarians, because right now they look like they belong in a completely different game than the all spells, all the time D&D 5e.
I think this was a miscalculation from WotC. They've decided to pick a system that a majority of people don't hate. But psionics are a niche system and they should have picked a system that a strong minority of people love.
One could use those systems and see psionics as scientific or mystical in nature, in my opinion, it’s hard to deny. That being said, if you expect D&D to be the Katherine Kurtz game, you’re bond to be disappointed.
Psionics are weird, psionics are different, psionics are powers that Wizards don't quite understand, people who have psionics powers are mutants. You lose all that when you turn them into Sorcerers. Oh well, I'll just use the Mystic.
Imagine that. Other people getting stuff you’re not interested in!
That being said, if one wanted to start a Greyhawk or a Known World campaign, they could use the old books and start playing right now.
