How many people do you know who haven't switched to 5e, and why haven't they?

To be honest I liked the essentials. IMO the Essentials were an attempt to grab the feel of earlier editions, make simpler characters or ones with minimal options/big fancy powers, in order to ease new people or to appease those who hated the big fat powers. One of the complaints of 4e was "Now...

How many people do you know who haven't switched to 5e, and why haven't they?

I have no interest in switching. 4e was my jam. While I'd rather play other systems (especially Fate), when it comes to dungeon delving and monster slaying, 4e is it for me. And very, very few people feel the way I do so no playing it. 5e feels too much like 3e, not something I really enjoyed...

    Help Me Remember That Encounter

I have a habit where I'll remember a single element of something - a name, a scene, an image - and I will obsessively hunt for it until it's found. Well, it's happened again, and in this case it's a single encounter. The encounter is a single encounter, a side-trek or stand-alone lark. The...

What Virtual Tabletop Software options exist?

Alas, I will be at a furry con in Chicago, but thanks for the thought. Maybe someone else here will see that. :D

What Virtual Tabletop Software options exist?

Maptools was my goto for years, but multiple parts of it tedious. Frameworks and saving issues and connectivity. Also the community looks really quiet, at least for the "looking for group" part. Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I like it. I DO find it weird that it's in-browser, rather...

D&D 4E Is there any 4e Retro Clones out there?

I do think Strike is pretty 4e-y, right down to how powers are presented. The only change is using symbols to express things, and say, a power is a 3x3 instead of a burst 1.

D&D 4E Good adventure that shows 4E's strengths?

Thread necro: "Dead By Dawn" is good, imo. :) Also I have said it from very early on, the 3e module "Speaker of Dreams" works real well. It'd require conversion, but it naturally has that "delve" format going. (Bonus: It works double for Eberron.)

What Virtual Tabletop Software options exist?

Grrf. You have to pay for Fantasy Grounds. My experience with all the others are free. Anyways, thanks.

What Virtual Tabletop Software options exist?

What programs are out there to handle tabletop online, and which are Good? I mean, WotC was talking about their own years ago, but I never heard much about it. My old standby has been MapTools, but it's a bit of a pain to design stuff and their Looking For forums seem rather quiet. I'm curious...

D&D 4E Is there any 4e Retro Clones out there?

:P More like I like Fate a lot, but have given up on RPGs for the most part due to non-system related factors. I was hoping someone might have "fixed" it. Streamlined it, addressed various problems, etc, while still able to use those old books/not make the old stuff rubbish (i.e. a nice 3.0 to...

D&D 4E Is there any 4e Retro Clones out there?

I was hoping for an actual product that other people would be able to buy, et al, instead of just a fan creation. But thanks!

D&D 4E Is there any 4e Retro Clones out there?

I've been absent, became a Fate fanboy/gave up on RPGs. But, occasionally, you want to kick in the door, slay some monsters, and do it with Encounter powers while wearing a role. (Or imagine you do while having the book in a shelf, not playing). So, older editions of D&D got Castles and...

    A Dark High Fantasy RPG

Okay well if you're going to be actively using it (instead of just poking at it absently) then I'll do my best. Fate lets you describe an Aspect any way you want, and any time that's applicable (good or bad) you can use it. A character could have: Stubborn as a Mule, Sucker for a Pretty Face...

    A Dark High Fantasy RPG

What are you looking for in this thread? Feedback as to 'I don't like this/I like this'? Also what do you plan to do with this - are you serious about putting this out there, or is this just for the sake of doing it? With your example, I forsee a lot of arguing "He hit me! That's PvP! I KILL...

What are your fav monsters to pit against players in DnD?

Are statues EVER harmless? If you see a statue in an adventure, there's like an 80% chance it's either a monster or a trap.

    Creative Dungeon Elements

One example of this I can think of is a dungeon made by a beholder just hollowing out solid stone with a disintegrate ray. Since beholders can fly, the passage and rooms are in 3D and likely don't make much sense. Or you could have flying monsters in your dungeon. The point is that some areas...

    Creative Dungeon Elements

Or, with portals, the dungeon doesn't even need to be in the same place. Rooms scattered between lots of distances, all linked via teleportation. Also I, too, would love a Castlevania dungeon. Been pondering that myself. I remember reading a S&S story where this sorcerer had a miniature...

    D&D 4E JamesonCourage's First 4e Session

I'm not big on Cthulu/Lovecraft either. The writing is hard to get into, and the "Knowledge that JUST SHATTERS YOUR MIND" does nothing for me. But I like bizarre monsters and the fact that Aberrations can simply violate the laws of the universe and such. And the alien-ness of it is intriguing...

    D&D 4E JamesonCourage's First 4e Session

Oh. Just a catch-all title I was using in this post for the thing that used to be in charge of what Reality now is. You could easily substitute Great Old One, Overmind, First Being, etc. The sea of chaos/Far Realms/etc has territories, each territory is shaped by the...

    D&D 4E JamesonCourage's First 4e Session

Sure. What came before the Primordials? The Primordials were the first things to sort of make "sense" in this bubble of reality, the first beings to gel. They exerted their power and shaped Reality (creating everything in this bubble). If you want to make a twist, perhaps the Primordials were...
