D&D 5E (2014) What type of D&D sourcebooks do you miss from older editions?

Settings in Boxed Set format! Then something similar to Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords

D&D General Which edition of D&D did you grow up with?

Exactly. I'm 41, but I didn't expect so many were in my age range. Maybe Enworld needs to try to attract younger gamers...

D&D General Which edition of D&D did you grow up with?

I started with BECMI, the first Italian translation of the Red Box, for some years in the late 80s if I remember correctly. Then in the 90s my group switched directly to AD&D2e and the settings: Dragonlance, Dark Sun, Planescape... Both were hugely satisfying experiences.

D&D 5E (2014) Suggest old adventures to be republished (in TotYP or GoS format)

What old adventures would you gladly see republished in an hardback TotYP or GoS style? My suggestions: Age of Worms Dragonlance original series Mystara series: Horror on the Hill (1-3), Night's Dark Terror (3-5), Isle of Dread (5-7), Master of Desert Nomads & Temple of Death (7-9), War Rafts...

    What is Greyhawk?

Forgotten Realms was chosen as the vanilla setting not because it's intrinsecally better then Greyhawk or Mystara, but for other reasons pertaining to the story of the hobby. TSR moved from Greyhawk to the Forgotten Realms not because FR is Better but for only a reason: they had fired Gygax and...

D&D General Nominate your favourite D&D villain!

If you had the chance of killing one and only one villain, who would you choose?... Strahd? Verminaard? Rajaat? Vecna? Manshoon? I'll choose Bargle. And I'll feel good while taking my revenge. Because in the beginning, when I started the game with the Red Box, my character fell in love with...

    What is Greyhawk?

They aren't literary masterpieces, that's clear. But I was a teenager when the Italian translation came out. I remember that I was conquered by the figure of Gord, I loved his adventures and companions, I absolutely adored the fiendish politics aspect and the Theorpart metaplot. I imagine we...

    What is Greyhawk?

Greyhawk is a world in which evil is winning. It has just a grim atmosphere. It's not about heroism, it's about power. The forgotten god was sundered in three, and the parts will be united again in the Day of Wrath. It's the land of Mordenkainen and Robilar, Vecna and Iuz, Eclavdra and...

D&D General Best and Worst Editions- For Adventures.

I'll like to discuss this point! IMO, many AD&D 1e adventures are so well appreciated because they are the first examples or exemplars, so they became classics, and not always because they are at the top. Yeah, for example, I played Against the Giants and it's great, but the plot is really...

D&D General Best and Worst Editions- For Adventures.

My Top 10 Adventures: 10) Tie between Curse of the Crimson Throne AP (Pathfinder), Kingmaker AP (Pathfinder), Eyes of the Stone Thief (13th Age) 9) Die Vecna Die! (last module of AD&D2e) 8) Dragon's Crown (AD&D2e, Dark Sun) 7) Norworld Trilogy: Test of the Warlords, Death's Ride, Sabre River...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best and worst of 5E

Best: PHB. Because bounded accuracy, centrality of roleplay vs rollplay, rulings over rules, caster supremacy dealt with, magic items economy gone, incredibile art, retrocompatibility. Worst: PotA is so utterly boring we couldn't finish it.

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else feeling "meh" about recent 5e releases?

I am happy with the new releases. I'm really excited at Descent into Avernus: basically a Planescape adventure. I really like the sandboxy nature of each adventure, rightfully a mini-setting in itself, and the fact that a DM can connect them. I'm also happy about Eberron - I'm not a huge...

D&D General Nominate your favourite D&D monster and why

The Red Dragon The pinnacle of combat achievement for an adventuring group is being able to slay a Red Dragon of maximum age and power. It's the act that proves their growth from rookies to Heroes of the land. The Red Dragon is an apocalyptic Beast that, as a symbol, represents Evil itself in...

    Mad at Paizo?

For them, it's a mere matter of survival. PF1 was saturated. They had to publish a new edition and re-do all the material, or die. I am personally grateful to Paizo. They produced Age of Worms, Savage Tide and other fantastic adventure paths. But I don't think they'll be able to challenge 5e...

TSR Rob Kuntz Recounts The Origins Of D&D

Kuntz' thesis is that the real mind behind D&D is Arneson, not Gygax. It can be true, but without Gygax the game would have remained in Arneson's brain. Gygax gifted the game to the world. Going off topic... Ironically, while most grognards swear that the way Gygax played was the only true way...

    D&D General Greyhawk setting material

Hello! I love Greyhawk because I read Gygax' novels about Gord the Rogue. They have a very special feeling that is different from the boxed sets, and IMO vastly superior. They also suggest a very interesting metaplot. The main difference with the Realms is not in content but in style and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragon Heist vs DotMM?

Exactly, I rated them so High because they are good mini-settings.
