Cool stuff WHW4! If you want to further restrict magic in the game you could require all non-martial classes to be multi-class only. I could see Gandalf as a high level Warlord/Arcane Initiate...;)

This. I also require Human race only, and the Divine and Arcane classes are available stricly via multiclass. Plus a lot of systems have a dearth of human "monsters", while with 4E its simple to write up a whole bunch of them with widely varying abilities in a very short period of time.

I hope it does well, bringing new folks to the hobby is a good thing! Free good idea: how about including a $5 or $10-off coupon for a PHB in these boxes to get the ball rolling for new players? And a question: Any future possibility of packs of Monster Tokens being sold with or alongside...

8-10 is a pretty safe bet. I've been involved in this a couple of times, once as player and once as DM and both times we were able to go strait into the Giant series.

I wouldn't bet the livelihood of an operation like Goodman Games on that. There's still a lot of question about the legality of retro-clones. Personally, I feel that as long as WotC continues to keep Moldvay/Cook unavailable for purchase, its fair game (look, a pun!). But I'm no copyright attorney.

I loves me some 1E, but a simple "martial character only" houserule for 4E is one of the closest approximations to dirty Sword-n-Sorcery I've seen in an RPG. IMO, Death Dealer and 4E should be a perfect fit. Trust granted. ;)
