    Lord Voldemort

He was a special form of lich (edit, not lich because he was never a dead body. Suffice to just say he had performed a special ritual.) that created multiple phylactories before death. After death, they keep the creator's soul on the prime material as a incoporial being with the power to possess...

Core DnD with a concrete setting

No. First, it doesn't add anything to the game. While they state that Greyhawk is the default setting, that does nothing but give us a few gods. Two, it makes it even harder to use a different setting, especially a homebrew, for reasons of player confusion.

Will 1e AD&D have me back?

*ding* Same here. C&C just made me want to play 1E or 3E, wihtout any desire to continue playing C&C. I played in a 1E game not too long ago. The GM just said "it's 1E, make characters" and everybody did. It was actually fairly refreshing to go back, read the rules as an adult with better...

4th edition, what did you know and when

I figured it was coming out when all my insider sources at WotC dried up earlier in the year. Once they stopped telling me what they were doing and told me they couldn't tell me what they were working on, I deduced that the only thing they couldn't talk about would be 4E. Add in ex-WotC...

When you're an "evil" person, what non-evil term do you use to describe yourself?

I really don't see a reason to find a different word to use for evil. Evil is objective and evil acts are evill by eveybodies standards. It is good that evil people would find a different word for. Good/evil are objective terms, but good/bad are subjective ones. An evil person can look upon his...

When you're an "evil" person, what non-evil term do you use to describe yourself?

As evil. Not only is evil an objective quality, but good and evil are two diametrically opposed philosophies. Good can generally be boiled down to the beleif that self sacrafice and mutual aid is the best for themselves or society, while evil is prone to seeing that taking what they want and...

D&D combat without minis - is it possible?

Never use minis. Simply don't have the money or the space to devote to them. Complicated combats just get drawn out on a desktop sized pad of 1/4" graph paper. Even then, exact locations aren't needed that much, just enough to know who's where and can run to what. AoO and reach can usually be...

When you're an "evil" person, what non-evil term do you use to describe yourself?

I usually see evil churches sought out and destoryed with fire and sword because nobody cares if you kill them and take their stuff. But there's a big difference between evil churches and evil people. Plus Neutral and evil countries usually make up 2/3rds of the countries.

    Henchmen, Followers, Cohorts and Companions

Much of our tendency to run two characters, besides duplicating roles in the party, was out of having a back up in case one got killed. One was normally the primary character while the other was the back up that was being played up from 1st level. We just never saw that many Raise Deads back then.

    Henchmen, Followers, Cohorts and Companions

How many henchmen and the like that showed up in my pre 3.5 games varied greatly between games. Some we had none, while others our "party" was very close to 50 people. Typically we always tried for around 8 PCs, with the DM playing one or people running multiples if needed. Even when just NPCs...

Nope. I think you just misread what I wrote since that was the bit I was paraphrasing.

    D&D 4E Talisman 4E! Whoa!

I'd agree but considering since I lost my old copy and expansions, it would cost me hundreds of dollars to get it again and play.

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

Assuming it works. The same data also showed that once people stuck with it, they stuck with it for a long time. Fundamentally changing it to a younger demographic might change that outcome and hurt the game more in the long run. In the olden days, you had the Basic set D&D that tended to draw...

    D&D 4E Talisman 4E! Whoa!

I don't know about that. It's got better artwork than 3e, but I don't know if I'd say it has better artwork than 2e. Of course, I'm a grognard that has come to associate Talisman with the 2e British style of art. What I saw in the trailer was what passes as standard fantasy art these days. Don't...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

"An encounter with an Encounter Level (EL) equal to the PCs' level is one that should expend about 20% of their resources... This means on average, that after four encounters of the party's level the PCs need to rest, heal, and regain spells. A fifth enounter would probably wipe them out." --3.5...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

Didn't say they weren't. In fact it is Mr. Dancy's research that I was speaking of. While nobody is forced to use them, they did change gameplay (without judging those changes as either good or bad) if running by RAW much more than previous edition changes did.

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

I'd have to disagree. The change from 2E to 3E was much greater in scope than that because there were certain design assumptions that were made that had not been there previously or were changed. This led to a much different game and game play than any pervious system changes. Some being...

Drow marriage (If there has ever been such a thing)

I'd say that being a Chaotic society, there probably is not one ritual (IMC BTW). It's probably whatever the couple or their families agree upon and when anything is followed, it probably has to do with family rituals and traditions rather than societal ones. In this case, it will probably end...

[Mongoose Traveller] What do you want to see?

Pretty much Classic Traveller (a combination of all old books and supliments) except: 1) Some default skills and such for each career. Something like a cross between the basic generation and the expanded like you saw in High Guard. I like the unpredictablity, but I'd like to be pretty sure of...

What if your player wanted to make a bet?

Nope. He'd have better luck trying to intimidate the enemy. If he wanted to get his troops back up, he'd probably need a Diplomacy roll for lack of anything better. Even then, no mass heal that would be equivilant to a decently high spell. However, if he did a good job of role playing I'd...
