D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

I recommend adventures in middle earth or whatever they called the second version of that. It’s 5e D&D without The hyper-fantastical vibes.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

They will be okay at exploring, but hardly noticeably better than a rogue. Especially before tier 4. Having expertise just isn’t that great, and has no focus whatsoever on exploration. Yep. And two languages is fine I guess but like…hardly unique.

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

I know several Norwegians. The only one I’ve ever met who had a problem with games having gods is, well, the person you’re arguing with. Catering to one person who is persistent online is definitely not a good strategy.

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

I can dig that. Tbh it’s possible that Kord just needs some sort of quirk. Like Thor is full of oddities, he has a very memorable look, he has named artifacts that are important, goats that come back to life, etc. Kord doesn’t seem to have any weird. Even rereading it, I don’t see it, but...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

Melora is The Sea, not just one aspect of it, and I can’t recall anything in the 4e books that paints Kord as what you’re painting him as. Closest is being a patron of warriors in the context of striving to be the best, and so combat as sport, maybe? But it’s a stretch to make that into...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

Divine options for villainy aren’t needed. At all. That’s what fiends and primordials and such are for.

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

Kord is vastly less interesting than an off brand Thor, but regardless the point is that “Strength” is not a domain that needs to be taken seriously as a “you can’t be this and that it’s too much.” There doesn’t even need to be a strength domain. You are skipping right past the point without...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

4 and 5 I’m fine with, 3 is a non-starter 100% Kord being Strength is even more boring than he already is. Strength and storms fits. Strength is a weird domain, though. Every warrior deity is a god of strength. Melora being Nature and The Sea is very natural and fits together perfectly...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

Get rid of Zehir, probably, because I literally forget he exists to begin with. Bahamut doesn’t need to cover protection to begin with, it’s just grid filling to even call “go out and kick evil’s butt” protection. I mean, if I was gonna write a whole detailed writeup about it I would have done...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG adventure design advice - a bit contradictory?

These kind of reversal responses don’t…mean anything…you know that, right? Like it’s a lot of words to say, “nu-uh”

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

There are some I’d probably add, but yeah 4e knocked this out of the park. I really like Mask from FR as a god of thieves and assassins and those who work in shadows, and I think a 4e style work up of him would be rad. I like FR’s Helm a lot and I think they (bc imo a reworked Helm should be...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: "New Rogue"

No, it’s not. Your entire presentation of what they’re doin in the video is nonsensical. They clarify in most of these videos what is being changed. That’s literally all they did here.

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG adventure design advice - a bit contradictory?

Which is a new Camry. Please understand the difference between new and novel. Would have been really easy to not try to nitpick my statement in the first place, but sure. (Also I haven’t made any comments about the relative utility of the new products, so…okay?)

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: "New Rogue"

Is that really a relevant question? The only question is whether the cunning strike benefits are worth a d6 damage or not. That was the point of his statement. Like literally the exact point.

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG adventure design advice - a bit contradictory?

I mean, yeah, a lot of people are dissatisfied that wotc isn’t pushing any envelopes (as if that is somehow inherently better than a stable game that remains the same game for decades), that’s part of the attitude I’m referring to. So not so much ironic as…the point. There is a pervasive...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG adventure design advice - a bit contradictory?

A new thing needn’t be novel. The newest model of Toyota Camry is new, but it’s far from novel. Novelty isn’t the issue. There is a pervasive attitude toward anything new from wotc that doesn’t show any signs of getting less toxic.

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG adventure design advice - a bit contradictory?

That isn’t an accurate description of the text. the only thing that doesn’t bode well for improvement here is the attitude of a chunk of the community toward new things.
