D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

The Mind Flayer in the new Monster Manual has 4 actions, two of which have saves and a third which can have a save. Tentacles: This requires a hit and if it hits you are essentially permanently stunned until someone else rescues you. You are correct, there is not save on this as there was...

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

Warlock, because of Armor of Agathys and short rest slot recharge. If you are building for durability at 1st level, I think a Dwarf Warlock with AOA and magic initiate Shield spell is probably the most durable while still maintaining decent damage output.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

I don't think this is true, it certainly is not in the case of the Mind Flayer. The Mind Flayer still has a DC 15 save vs Mind Blast or be stunned and it also has a DC for extract brain. The main difference with Mind Blast is the stun only lasts one round now and is not save again at the end...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

We went first most of the time although I don't know that we tracked it. One PC (Warlock/Bard) had alert. We did use a few 2024 monsters at the end of the campaign, but we still rolled initiative for them. If we used the new fixed initiative option in the 2024 monster manual I am sure we...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Then why not just get rid of saves? This may not be an issue in your game, but it definitely was in ours and in the games I DM I am simply going to housrule it so it is not an issue. That is an easier fix IMO.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Well that was a problem. But Indomitable 3 times per day is essentially the same as Legendary resistance. There is no monster in the Monster manual that is going to make a 20th level fighter fail a save and many of those terrible save or suck are also either limited use or else once you make a...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

It was not very challenging and to be clear we talked about it after the campaign and everyone, including all 5 PCs and the DM agreed the Fighter specifically had problems. I related above what those were. We also noted other problems as well, specifically the Command and Tasha's Hideous...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

I would have no problem with that. The problem I have is they can shrug it off even if they roll garbage. They can shrug it off even if they roll garbage twice in a row. Why bother rolling at all? Just give them legendary resistance. It may be the point but it was not fun in our game, YMMV

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

At high level the fighters indomitable blows away the Paladin Aura and the Monk proficiency. Those are reasonable, indomitable is not. +20 is a lot more than +6 and if you have a Paladin with a 22 Charimsa in the party in the party the Fighter is rocking a +26. Is there any save that high in...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Our experience wasn't so great. I think everyone at the table prefered the game experience with te 2014 fighter. YMMV The guy we who played the fighter in the first 2024 campaign disliked it so much he is playing a Wizard in the next game. He has previously played a Fighter, Paladin or...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Most of the time a 20th level fighter in 2024 will succeed on a 1. With indomitable, a 1 on the die is a 21 then you add proficiency, ability bonus or any magic item or spell buffs. With Mage Slayer, Indomitable and Heroic Warrior, I don't think the fighter in the campaign I just finished...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

In 1E, fighters were generally the best at 15th to 20th level, although Magic-Users were better at level 21+ and better at low levels. Even so though they were not as good as high level fighters now. For example a fighter at 20th level in 1E saved against spells was a 6. This means they will...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

I find it immersion breaking and so did the other players at our table. If saving throws just don't matter than what is the point.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

No it is the +1d10 they can get from Tactical Mind. There are several issues with it, first off it is +5.5 on average which is more than proficiency until 17th level. Second you only use the resource if you succeed. What this means in play is Fighters without proficiency are better at...

D&D 5E (2024) Current Stealth Rule Actually Works As Is. If Moving Out of Cover After Hiding Makes Enemies Immediately "Finds You", Hide Would Be Totally UNUSABLE.

It might work mechanically sometimes but the wording is a hot mess. Hiding makes you "invisible" and invisible means you can't been seen .... but to try to hide you need to be fully obnscured which means you can't be seen anyway .... then breaking cover does not break invisibility .... So RAW...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

That is one of the complaints, another is the extremely high damage and a third is the skill system that lets them outshine dedicated skill classes at times.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

Playing high-level D&D may not be the norm, but a lot of people do it. I have played a number of 1-20 campaigns in 5E and completed one 2-20 campaign using 2024. The one using 2024 was not that great, maybe they will get better, but the 5E ones were for the most part pretty awesome. In any...

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

IRL I have not come across anyone who complains about the imbalance. I come across players who mention it, but they all are either ok with it or in some cases actually prefer the imbalance. In the games I play I've actually heard more complaints about the new buffed fighter in 5 months of 2024...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

When you say "slave" does that include summoned magically summoned sentient creatures? Most of them are essentially slaves.
