D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

I'm assuming intelligent play or play by the rules. By the rules, every undead minions is supposed to finish their movement and take their action before the next can. So if you have 6 zombies, 3 ghouls, and a spirit, you are by the rules supposed to take 11 turns per round. And you are allowed...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

In my family's home rew RPG, characters are more like wargame units. It in Necromancers work on both sides as Heroes can be attached to our command Troops, Elites, or Mounts. So the zombies attacks are rolled and move with the Necromancers. So their turn is fast. If the Necromancer detaches...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

No much more than D&D. Either your undead minions are horde blob who go right after you like D&D. Basically a Ranger with different domains. Or worse... your undead minions each have turns, fail a lot, hog spotlight, and generate tons of Fear. 💀💀💀 I can't see it coming out that satisfying.

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

Designed a game aspect that is obviously broken or disruptive with a disclaimer that it is obviously broken or disruptive and that players much promise not to abuse it is a bad public commercial sales strategy. That's why no one does it. MHP weakened their necromancer class so that being...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

It's not that you will. It's that you can. Johnny wants individual skeleton actions knowing that he won't abuse it and will 95% of the time just move all the skeletons at once and roll all their attacks one time. But opening up that option allows Jimmy at another table to carefully consider...

D&D 5E (2024) What are the "Martial" Styles

That's more schools than traditions/styles. A collection of aspects every style uses. Like both Martial, Shadow, and Raw would have Rising Current. But a Martial have would have Eye Slash, the Raw character would have Charge, and the Shadow character would have Speed over Strength. I was...

D&D 5E (2024) What are the "Martial" Styles

So most fans are familiar with Wizard, Cleric, and Druid spells lists and the concepts of them being the basis of the types of magic: Arcane, Divine, and Primal unofficial. Many group weapon and skill classes together into the same group called Martials based on the Martial Power source of 4th...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

D&D is based on the assumption only one person is playing the GM role. And even then GM's tend to abstract things at this level. The entire conversation is that a player wants to play the game the way the GM plays without using the special skills that GM to speed up their time. Basically...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

There are. They want the option sometimes. But "sometimes" is a DM to Player to Allies agreement. Not a base design for purchasable content. "Sometimes" in the base game has a defined numerical value

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

The issue is there has been at least three people in this thread who want to for skeletons to be run at four individual units with full actions.

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

You are assuming players RTFM. And even then MHP puts strict and low limits of how many thralls you get. Creating a class that is either broken or disruptive and requiring the players to not break or be disruptive won't make it out in the wild.

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

More social. If Johnny's turn takes 25 minutes each time because he is controlling 1 wizard, 10 zombies, 3 ghouls, and a wight... it can be balanced.... He is just taking up 4-5 times the times as his tablemates' and is dragging down the game You can tell him to run them all at once but...

It screws up combat It screws up combat It screws up combat It screws up combat It screws up exploration sometimes. The player would have to agree to a social contract not to go through all the tactical options of every zombie not abuse having extra chances to do a lot chance option.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Really I always felt that the fighter class should be the high base stat class. Second wind, indomitable, and action surge all feel like artificial ways to increase the stats temporarily of the fighter class and remain with in the bounds of tradition. Like a fighter really should have a D12...

Only if you have tunnel vision. Combat Zombie, Worker Zombie, Talking Zombie, and Mook Zombie were different Zombies. Even in video games, they are different spells. So if you want to create Mook Zombies in order to grapple the charging orc and make 12 grapple attempts a turn... you are being...

Not really. I might trust you to not bog down the game. But my friend Malik who forgets stuff all the time. He can't play that class. Again and the magic of D&D is .. 1) There are things that can be designed for your specific table. 2) There are things that can be designed for many tables...

Those assumptions also happen to be common in most popular books, movies, games, and shows. The exceptions tend to only be single player Diablo, Warcraft, and FFT clone video games.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

I always thought up the simulation of a 4 person party assualting the stronghold of a BBEG of the 4 basic classes. The wizard and cleric have created traps and minions to grind them down and sit in the throne room ready to ignite a high level spell to wipe them out while drained. The fighter...
