Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

You are not. I rented and saw this with friends when it was pretty new. The lack of budget for special effects is a significant limiter, and the script shows what a rushed job it was, but the casting is pretty awesome and we still laughed a lot. It is fun looking back at it in retrospect...

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Mystery Men first appeared in Flaming Carrot and carried the same kind of absurdist underdog energy.

    Our Physical Fitness

Had a good, but still relatively light, gym session last night- elliptical warm up, dumbbell bench four sets, dumbbell inclined curls 3 sets + drop sets, cable row three sets, elliptical cool down. Plus my PT exercises at home. First "actual" PT session (after the initial eval) this morning...

    Trailer Tron Ares trailer

Trailer looks great, Bridges still being involved is great, and original music by NIN is literal music to my ears. Well, that's definitely his voice in the trailer.

Huzzah! I like narrow grip better on that exercise anyway. Definitely feel my lats more.

D&D General One innovation per edition

Late 3.5 definitely started playing around with concepts which got more fully expressed in 4E. Book of 9 Swords is the obvious standout there, but stuff like the original Warlock class from Complete Arcane as well.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Great short lists. 1978 Superman ranks pretty highly for me, too, in part because of the wonderful John Williams score, as someone else already highlighted. For me Into the Spiderverse clinches the top spot. It's practically flawless. That's a movie I went to see multiple times in the...

Daniel Day-Lewis. Who's also the only guy I can imagine doing as good a job as Viggo with a hypothetical alternate casting of Aragorn. Johnson is interesting in that I agree that he doesn't challenge himself (compare with Vin Diesel doing stuff like Find Me Guilty), but I kind of respect that...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Left out flanking in both examples. :) In 4E just for Combat Advantage, but in 1E it's also under your point 4, since which and whether attacks will ignore the shield also depends on positioning, and if one of the orcs happens to be making a rear attack it get +2 to hit and ignores both the...

D&D General One innovation per edition

The healing system being proportional to each character and limited by a per-character resource (surges), so for the first time non-combat classes like mages didn't recover from injury faster than combat classes like fighters. Non-AC defenses being reversed from traditional saving throws, which...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Right. Basic Fantasy; but RuneQuest was the originator.

Seems like a reasonable thesis! Although the strain is very localized.

My understanding has always been that 3-5mg daily is the optimal range, and that "loading" with higher doses has not been shown to have any long term benefit. Are there studies recommending higher dosage? Same.

    Best fantasy names in literature

How dare! Brandoch Daha is clearly on the "amazing" side of that divide. Along with Lord Juss, Lady Mevrian, and Duke Corsus. But Goldry Bluszco is definitely on the "silly" side, with La Fireez, Lord Spitfire, and Fax Fay Faz. :) But I guess this is just a minor example of how subjective...

"I think Hydrogen is a rare element" and other science facts.

Sort of. Gauntlets of Ogre Power gave 18/100 Strength for the hands, arms, and shoulders, including the usual +3 TH and +6 damage. Which implied we're talking the same strength range. Ogres wielding weapons got that extra +2 to hit (leaders and chiefs +3 and +4) in addition to their functional...

Last night: Elliptical warm up, supine press four sets, inclined dumbbell curls three sets with drop sets on each, leg press three sets with sets of calf raises after each. Leg press was my first time doing it at PF so a new machine, and my first time trying it since March 15, around when my...
