    Terrible sequels

Ill agree on riddick but ill defend chronicles to my last breath. Not as...you know a good movie but it is fun and has lots of heart. Riddick is pretty bad though

What's so Funny, Anyway: Is it Time to Comedies Seriously?

It happens a fair bit. I'd be willing to argue that the best Will Ferrel performance is Stranger then Fiction (which while a comedy has him playing the serious straight man and really killing it). Turns out that a lot of really good comedic actors are just....Good actors.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I do think theres a difference between "we use contract work because we expect this to be a short term position" and "we use contract work even if we expect it to be a long term position so that we can look better if we fire/replace people."

D&D General Should you clarify information to the detriment of the players?

The doorknob was a spinning wheel (think submarine or vault door) where the wheel was ripped off but the door was still intact (the hole didn't go the whole way through). I did mention that they could try and go inside the door and navigate through the interior mechanism if they desired. As for...

D&D General Should you clarify information to the detriment of the players?

I think that may be how they took it was what I was considering after. My thinking at the time was "they seem to want to do this particular plan and there is a peice of information that would be obvious to their characters but that the players seem to have forgotten." I believe I even...

D&D General Should you clarify information to the detriment of the players?

To clarify specifics (easier when I'm not on mobile) They knew the wizard was fairly powerful and they seemed cautious of infiltrating the tower, assuming it would be dangerous. One player had encountered the wizard in his backstory and knew he was dangerous. They were in front of the tower...

D&D General Should you clarify information to the detriment of the players?

So a situation came up last session (and similar ones have come up before) where I as the DM clarified information to a player in order to help them execute a plan that had a very high chance of getting them killed. The situation last session, for example, was players trying to break into a...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I'm actually basing it on their own reported numbers. Ellorghast does a better/more in depth rundown on page 68 but in short Hasbro isnt in danger of collpse without these layoffs and in fact made more money then last year. It just looks worse because they sold eOne for a loss which is both a...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

It is terrible how someone can ruin thousands of peoples lives not for the health of a business but simply to make the numbers look a bit better so that he and other hyper wealthy people can gain yet more wealth despite already having more money then they could reasonably ever spend isn’t it?

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Im sorry but of someones yearly salary is enough to comfortably retire then the argument that they need a few extra million to survive until they find a new job doesnt hold weight. No one making a million+ a year base salary is going to starve if it takes a few years for them to find a new job...

D&D General When do you overrule RAW?

So the thing is rules arent perfect and because edge cases will come up where they dont make sense because rules designers either didn't expect something to come up or they simply didnt want to make a 2,000 page book where each ability multiple paragraphs. RAW the tarrasque can be tripped by...

WotC Hasbro Earnings Call: WotC/BG3 carrying Hasbro

So i am one of the people who think that the current profitability of Magic isnt sustainable. Im not sure id call it a bubble but WOTC has demonstrated a tendency towards making decisions that i think are detrimental to the long term health of the game over the last decade or so. Things like...

WotC Hasbro Earnings Call: WotC/BG3 carrying Hasbro

I think the degree to which BG3 succeeded is surprising but not out of nowhere. They sold millions of copies before it even officially released. Although come to think of it i kinda wonder if they assumed that would be the majority of sales. Edit: quick googling puts early access sales at 2.5...

D&D General Respeckt Mah Authoritah: Understanding High Trust and the Division of Authority

One thing I'm thankful I've cultivated with my group is a high level of trust in that if I'm on the edge about a ruling or decision I can often turn to my players and go "I think that the ruling should be X does that sound correct to everyone?" and I can trust them to be honest even if its bad...

Critical Role Critical Role removes hundreds of YouTube videos and podcast episodes.

God im so sorry for Ashley. Really hope she doing better now that hes out of her life. I do wonder what they'll do about the live show recordings? Seems it would be pretty easy to cut out the intros on those and reupload them.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Paladin ... Divine Smite is a Spell now

So real question does anyone actually use the Xanathar spell identify rule? Because i was under the impression that it was widely considered really bad and as such everyone ignored it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6: Paladin ... Divine Smite is a Spell now

So while this is definitely a nerf to paladins thats not necessarily a bad thing. Paladins were arguably the best class in the game in terms of combat and a rich vein of multi class cheese. This seems closer to putting them on the same level as other classes. I suspect a lot of players wont...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dexterity too good?

So I think the answer depends on how you define the to in to good. The two stats almost every character wants are dex and con, and dex applies to a lot more. I would in fact say dex is likely the single best stat, ignoring any that are class specific. But does dex being so good make the game...

WotC may have sent the Pinkertons to a magic leakers home. Update: WotC confirms it and has a response.

I'm with @Ruin Explorer here. To be %100 honest it does not matter how the Pinkertons operate in the modern era. They could be the most by the books, gentle, well respected security firm on the planet and it wouldn't matter because from the name Pinkerton has a very specific historical...
