D&D 5E (2014) So I got my PHB. My impressions...

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0165.html Maybe it's because they're stick figures, but no one really complained at how Belkar had a big head. Count me in as part of the "likes 5E halflings" camp. :D

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition stat-block concern: Saving throws

As a personal preference, +X/+Y feels like it will give me a .5 second delay ("saves are higher, saves are higher, need to remember"), whereas an extra row with the label "saving throws" won't. I guess it's because I work with spreadsheets all day? I dunno. I feel like this is a big case of YMMV.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Umber Hulk preview

*clicks on "show"* *looks at eyes* I think the image is broken. There was nothing there. Also, I think I'm missing about six minutes of my life.

    D&D 5E (2014) I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

Won't the tarrasque just roll over an army of skeletons and effectively destroy everything?

D&D 5E (2014) Is it just me or does it look like we are getting the "must have feats" once again?

2 copper pieces on EA: cp#1: A nitpick - some people are saying that EA has a reroll. It doesn't - it just treats 1s as 2s. It doesn't really change the discussion much but I feel like it should be pointed out. cp#2: On houseruling - instead of houseruling the feat, my approach would be to...

    D&D 5E (2014) FGG/Necromancer Games teases 5th Edition Foes

Finger of Death really stands out as the scary thing about this monster, build-wise. Art wise, I like how he's eating with his pinky out. :D

    D&D 5E (2014) Advantage in 5e combet

I take my cues from the Help action. Mostly, I grant advantage outside of the normal rules if they spend a significant amount of effort (an action) to do so.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

*2 coppers* Having DM'd (and introduced) many players through 4E, I can say that I know a lot of people who are pretty pysched at seeing one of the races that they consider to be core in the 5E rulebook. And this time around, they didn't have to cut the half-orc and the gnome to put them in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Math v Character

I Math, but only to a point. When I feel like further optimization will lead to me succeeding on a natural d20 roll of 3-4, I feel like I've gone overboard. Sure I like to have a success chance that's higher than my failure chance, but for some reason I also want my failure chance to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) I think I'll leave out feats

By default, I won't tell my players that they can use feats. If they ask me if they can use it, though, I'll let them. I'll probably do it this way since some of my players aren't really into customizing builds, while others are very invested in it. ADD: I think stat bumps should be kept in...

D&D 5E (2014) Idea for removing the ability score cap...

Well if it's a mortal cap, the storyline reason for allowing PCs to break it is to become demigods. That would be an interesting custom rule module, and I'd buy it if ever. If I will draft a bunch of houserules I'd probably take my inspiration from PF's Mythic Rules. But that's just idle...

D&D 5E (2014) what is your favourite spell in 5th edition so far?

Mine is Globe of Invulnerability. This is excellent against mage battles. I'm also about 40% sure that it cannot be affected by dispel magic. And it also requires Concentration, so it's fairly balanced. I won't be doing silly shenanigans such as Flying with a Globe of Invulnerability on. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations on the Monsters in the Starter Set.

Oh hai! Thanks for the offer, but I already ordered it through our new FLGS. It takes two months, but it's coming. Eventually. D: Anyway, carry on with talking about Turn Undead. :D (2 coppers: I think it's meant to make fighting undead easier by design. So far it's working as intended, IMO...

D&D 5E (2014) Str, Int and Cha Saves

I've been thinking of using Int saves for resisting madness caused by Lovecraftian horrors. It feels so unsatisfying, though, because the bookish wizards will tend to be the ones currently subjected to isolated instances of this. And they are the ones most likely to successfully save. :erm:

D&D 5E (2014) Will you always max out your primary stat?

Thanks for the replies, all! Sorry if I can't reply to most of you as I only have so much time at work. ;) Certainly, there are obvious benefits to maxing out your primary stat: This includes better attack rolls, spell save DCs, damage bonuses, etc etc. I was just wondering about the...

D&D 5E (2014) Will you always max out your primary stat?

Thanks for the swift replies, guys. So far, it seems like I'm in the minority and maxing to 20 is the preferred choice for players. To generate more discussion: Doesn't it seem like overkill, though? At level 1, you're likely to have +2 prof and +3 stat. That's already enough to reliably...
