Planescape Planescape to languish in purgatory?

DL has setting specific races and classes in addition to the typical setting specific monsters. Magic functions differently than in other settings. The gods actually need statblocks. in addition, there are several eras fit for gameplay that would need statted out. Ravenloft has a fear mechanic...

Planescape Planescape to languish in purgatory?

I'd like to see one of the settings that had some crunch specific to the setting. Darksun would be ideal, but Dragonlance could be a close second. Most of what I liked from Planescape and Ravenloft was fluff. Hell, most of what I liked from DL and DS was fluff, too, but it would be nice to get...

    D&D 5E (2014) Exotic Mounts

insert beating dead horse gif I also conceded the point, several posts ago, when presented with a rl example that debunked my belief. If you want to argue semantics, I'm out.

    D&D 5E (2014) Exotic Mounts

Because it isn't a factor of weight. Its that most animals can't carry any significant weight on their back without major complications. More a musculature/bone structure issue than weight. Yon malamute has apparently been saddled though, and that punches a fairly large hole in my issues.

And the average 6 year old out weighs your average halfling. TIL.

I also "rode" the large family dog, but in my instance it amounted to very brief rides where she moved at a snails' pace. Is it more realistic to have a riding dog than giant flying lizards that exhale color coded elemental hazards? Sure, but it still bothers me.

    D&D 5E (2014) Exotic Mounts

This is one of my biggest pet peeves in fantasy. Very, very few creatures have the combination of size, strength, and bone/muscular structure to support a rider. Riding dogs piss me off to no end. It might be why I hate gnomes. naughty word, even horses were too small for riding through the bronze age.

    Cleric Won't Heal?

Missed it. Did you cover Healing Surges as well? They make a party freaking terrifying.

    Cleric Won't Heal?

You are under valuing spending HD to heal at a short rest. If that isn't sufficient, and no one wants to be a more dedicated healer then there are optional rules your DM may want to look at.

    Cleric Won't Heal?

The game is designed so that clerics can heal. Not that they must. Clerics also make great blasters, buffers and front line combatants. With all the out of combat healing, not to mention the healing abilities of the paladin, ranger, bard, sorcerer, artificer, and druid, there is no reason that...

    Cleric Won't Heal?

This strikes me as odd. Why is the cleric pigeon holed into one role when no other class is? Would it make you feel better if a player ran a "divine warrior" instead of a "cleric?" Same class but played as a striker?

D&D General PCs raiding a city

Not OP, obviously, but I get the impression it the classic "villain expects to have some power over his new allies. Villain is wrong. Chaos ensues."

D&D General PCs raiding a city

Oh, man. If you don't do at least one big battle scene you are cheating yourself. I pulled off a githyanki incursion once apon a time and the battles are still talked about. You just need to wrap your head around it.

D&D General PCs raiding a city

Thats awesome. Whats your endgame? I'm assuming something like "vikings and elves band together to drive the giants back to (somewhere,) and PCs find a way to make that permanent.

D&D General PCs raiding a city

What he said. Elves aren't typically portrayed as having a stout, static defense. They run an active layered defense. What does that mean for you? Ambushes. Counter offensives. Nighttime raids. All with silent, hidden archers that fade away at the first signs of resistance, only to reappear...

D&D General PCs raiding a city

I've done this a few times and a few things became apparent rather quickly. D&D is not a great combat sim, and that is more obvious when you expand the scope of the conflict. This can be avoided by steering the PCs into a more isolated portion of the battle. Remember in Prince of Persia (the...

D&D General Sword & Sandals campaign ideas

Lame ass problem: I promised my players a sword & sandals campaign. Something like Conan but set in ancient Athas (Dark Sun post Rajaat's murder but before the Wars of cleansing have ended.) Its a mash up that checks a lot of boxes for us. BUT I AM BLANKING ON PLOT! I can think of dozens of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Orcish Fury for a Paladin

You know, in a party where you are the only one in melee this could be ok. Coordinate with your healer to only heal you when you drop. Exploit the yo-yo and let them prioritize something more exciting than slapping band-aids on your boo-boos. I bet you could pull this off a lot more than you'd...

D&D 5E (2014) Fighters should be the social class

I get how you rationalize that, but the intensity of a paladin is likely to be a turn off to many. I think you just need to bite the bullet and put some points in Cha.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Dudes?

Their early stuff was pretty good. I haven't been impressed for a while, but for a new 5e player it is easily worth the watch.
