    D&D 5E (2014) D&d is not a good sandbox?

At 1st level, my PCs fear the wilderness. At 12th level, the wilderness fears my PCs.

    D&D 5E (2014) Weird Monk Mentality?

"Barbarian is resistant to all damage except psychic in a rag, " Why is he resistant to all except psychic? Is this a house rule? In the PHB barbs are resistant ONLY to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dawn Take You All

Recharge at dawn comes with all sorts of issues. I really would rather it be every 24 hours, and I may end up doing that in my game. Not only do you have the esoteric but real issue of teleportation allowing you multiple dawns per day, you also get the following: Any person worth half a copper...

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

I agree. Clearly, if a vegan east meat he loses his Vegan powers. So a druid should lose his druid abilities.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dawn Take You All

A great many magic items in 5e reset their charges at dawn. What, exactly does that mean? Most campaign worlds, even if they are flat, have a sun that moves across the sky (or a planet that spins on its axis). That means different time zones...and different dawns. Not a problem until you get...

    D&D 5E (2014) What will 5E D&D be remembered for?

It will be the edition that made it fun to DM again.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is there too much gold/reward?

The fact is that compared with 3e, there is just not enough to spend things on for the PCs. It's not that there is too much gold per se, it is that the PCs accumulate it without spending it. I think, in some sense this is a misnomer. Yes, when a fighter gets plate armour he is basically done...

D&D 5E (2014) Ghoul and Ghast attack bonuses

As an aspiring DMs Guild adventure writer, I have been paying much closer attention to stat blocks in the Monster Manual. Can someone tell me how the attack bonuses for ghouls and ghasts were calculated? Specifically, why is the bite attack 2 less than the claw attack? As best I can figure out...

    D&D 5E (2014) MPMB's D&D 5e Character Tools

I am trying to enter a giant lizard as a mount and for damage for the bite it just lists +2. No damage dice. And it won't let me manually type it in.

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force / Forcecage House Rules

In Pathfinder, they made Wall of Force have hardness and hit points, so it can be beaten down over time. This is probably the route to go. Give it an AC, lots of hit points, and maybe even resistance to piercing weapons and immunity to poison and psychic damage. I have always felt WoF was one...

D&D 5E (2014) How did you fare against Venomfang the Young Green Dragon Lost Mine of Phandelver?

My players met the druid and were warned about Venomfang. They decided to tackle him last and so finished all of the rest of LMoP. Then at 4th level they took him on with the druid casting Protection from Poison on key PCs. They then did no talking to the dragon and just ganked him, The...

D&D Movie Takes Cues From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

As a movie producer and someone tangentially involved in the original piece of poop D&D movie, I can only say I see nothing good coming of adopting this tone for the film. Some humour is fine, but I fear this is going to turn into a travesty. While many at home campaigns have humour in them, the...

D&D 5E (2014) Why (and when) did "Adventure Paths" replace modules?

RPGs are not novels. A feature of APs is the extensive longterm railroading they HAVE to do in order to sustain your beloved novelization. Good campaigns also have a beginning, middle, and end....but they are developed over longer periods of time and allow for much broader character development...

D&D 5E (2014) Why (and when) did "Adventure Paths" replace modules?

I am not a big fan of adventure paths either, but with the limited attentions spans of much of today's youth they are necessary, as many groups like to finish a "campaign" in a few months and then move onto the next campaign with new characters. Another example of the video gamification of RPGs.

D&D 5E (2014) How to run Death House without killing your entire party

The fact that the blog calls LMoP a similar TPK factory belies his argument. My PCs ran through LMoP as written and I held nothing back and there was not a single PC death. Careful play and strategic withdrawals can overcome most obstacles. 5e scenario design has definitely reverted to its 1e...
