    Glorantha: Which system?

The choices are fewer than they might seem. Listing RQ1, RQ2 and RQG is a bit redundant - effectively there is no RQ1 (it is the same as RQ2), and RQ2 & RQG are close enough that almost anyone who was a fan of RQ2 would be perfectly at home with RQG - certainly that is the bulk of the audience...

M.A.R. Barker, author of Tekumel, also author of Neo-Nazi book?

Yes, but since these days Dave is flogging crypto currencies, perhaps the thinking was that he may as well defend Barker to attract as much ill-feeling as humanly possible.

Is it just me? Tired of huge books

Outside of D&D, my understanding is that it is not viable for small RPG companies to produce multiple books, it makes everything too expensive. The everything-in-one approach will sell, multiple rule books will not, unless you are WOTC and then it's like printing money.

M.A.R. Barker, author of Tekumel, also author of Neo-Nazi book?

So you on the one hand claim that membership of a Fascist group is "nothing in and of itself" - so common you consider it insignificant, and on the other you "suspect": That it is Islam which is to blame for Barker's behaviour - well, you are making this claim in your previous post! How is it...

M.A.R. Barker, author of Tekumel, also author of Neo-Nazi book?

Before you get too excited by the thought that he was inspired by extremist Muslim conspiracies, it's worthy noting that MAR Barker's father was a member of the Silver Legion of America, a US Fascist group active in the 1930s.

M.A.R. Barker, author of Tekumel, also author of Neo-Nazi book?

As a response to an accusation of being a neo-nazi, that has to be a spectacularly weak one... "He was only a neo-nazi in his spare time! As a hobby! You know, for fun, not professionally!" On the idea that the novel was a joke or a satire. If you are poking fun at neo-Nazis, you have to go...

M.A.R. Barker, author of Tekumel, also author of Neo-Nazi book?

A couple of posts down is this: 1) Phil's dad, Loris Barker, was a very big name in the German-American Bund in the late thirties, and had connections to the Silvershirts / Loyalty League organization. Phil did not have a good relationship with his father, and was very dismissive of him, his...

Payn's Ponderings' To script, or not to script?

There is a very simple rule - Never plan any outcomes. Everything follows from that. All of these ... Bad guy encounter where bad guy escapes PCs are arrested, relived of their effects, and jailed The sailing/space ship crashes and PCs are marooned NPC travelling with PCs is untrustworthy, and...

    Heroquest or Castle Ravenloft?

Likely none that would suit your group. I like Claustrophobia for example, but it's 2 player only, and it's very much a Marmite thing. I would send that list to your group and see what strikes their fancy. People's needs and tastes vary, I have no idea how big your group is, what genres they...

Anyone familiar with CoC 6th Edition

Yep. It's a skills-based d100 game based on BRP/RuneQuest. If you aren't interested in the setting then you might be interested in BRP itself, or Mythras, or OpenQuest, Legend or Delta Green, since they are all variants of BRP. The differences are in the focus and genre support. 6th edition CoC...

Your thoughts on monsters having six Abilities

Yup, in RuneQuest/BRP/Mythras creatures other than human are essentially identical to PCs (which also can mean it's a pain to generate them). This also means it is very easy for a player to create and use any intelligent creature as a player character, within the terms of the campaign, and...

Your thoughts on monsters having six Abilities

Many systems outside of d&d have standard stats or characteristics the same as PCs. I would say it's the norm rather than the exception - this is the non-d&d sub forum after all.

Game design: Is there already a TTRPG system…

Forbidden Lands (from Free League) does something like this. The core of the system (Year Zero Engine) uses a pool of d6, determined by characteristics + skill + equipment. A 6 is a success, 1 is a fail (or potential fail). You can use this as an opposed roll with two parties rolling. Forbidden...

    Melee Weapons sorted by effectiveness?

Sure, and entirely separate from the weapons themselves. A falchion functions differently from a war hammer.

    Melee Weapons sorted by effectiveness?

Weapons which have material differences do different things. A tanto has certain characteristics which are different from a kanabo, independently from how they are used. That's why different weapons exist.

sell me on a different system

As others have said, what was it about d&d you did not like, and what kind of thing are you looking for? You could include genre, and the kind of thing you expect to be doing in the game. For example, Call of Cthulhu is mostly about mysteries, investigations and horror. Dungeon Crawl Classics is...

    Melee Weapons sorted by effectiveness?

I use Mythras which is a version of RuneQuest/BRP. The system does not model damage type as such, but some weapons are capable of certain effects which in part model damage types, this is a sample: Weapon Damage Size Reach Effects Enc Traits 1H Weapons: Dagger 1d4+1 S S Bleed...

    Melee Weapons sorted by effectiveness?

Agree with MGibster - it depends. Different weapons have different characteristics, so system matters in this respect. Does your system support Blunt Vs Slashing Vs Piercing? in which case this might make a difference. Does your system support weapon range? in which case long hafted and/or 2H...
