    D&D 5E (2014) PHB Races Redone

Looking through the PHB I am tempted to say screw it, and fix up the base races and do away with base races all together and add more to the base races or maybe do up a list of cultures and say pick one that fits in place of subraces.

Do we have any Biologists on hand?

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB Races Redone

Is it Biological or is it because of culture there are Dark Elves that do no live underground and do not have it and there are dark Elves that come from underground and adapt over time.

Subrace High Elf: +1 Int Goodbye Free Pick in new method Elf Weapon Training Cultural Cantrip Cultural Extra language Cultural Wow it seems High Elves are defined completely by culture not biology. Even the description does not provide a lot to hang things off.

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB Races Redone

Lets have a look at the Elves first (Base race) They get: +2 Dex Goodbye Free pick in new method Lifespan: Would the long lifespan count or is it a story element that has no bearing? (Which is my thought) Darkvision Biological trait stays Keen Senses: Whilst being a biological trait instead of...

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB Races Redone

I was wondering what the PHB races would look like with the new racial format ie minus the cultural and added or altered abilities to make up the difference. Might be worth having a crack at it as I do not mind some of the new races we have been seeing lately. I will look at each race one at a...

D&D General Why Exploration Is the Worst Pillar

As I have said in other threads one of the biggest problems with exploration is the abilities, skills and spells that engage that space, they are either skip buttons or one and done. Abilities, skills and spells need to be designed in a way that they interact with the space to make it more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Many of us disagree and are saying further streamlining would be harmful to the game and that some areas need a bit more meat to get the most out of them.

D&D 5E (2014) I thought WotC was removing biological morals?

Just because a complaint is made does not mean that it is valid. If a person after explanation cannot grasp or care for the difference between a free willed sentient being and a murderous spirit, then that is on them not the D&D community as a whole. W we do not have to make changes on the basis...

D&D 5E (2014) I thought WotC was removing biological morals?

A quick bit of research easily done using available resources such as google of a library would tell you what they are and that it does not sit with the evil race issue. This seems to be manufactured controversy.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

I think the rules need more meat and the exploration abilities and spells need to be more interactive than skipping. More meat on the exploration pillar would give skill, spellcaster and nature type characters more to hang things off and interact with.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Curious how many of you skip over or quickly describe journeys and pick up at or near the adventure site?

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Let's not kid ourselves the exploration pillar is poorly fleshed out, the mechanics are largely defined as an ability check then done. After that it is as mentioned skipped by class abilities and spells IF the DM even bothers to cover that part at all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Whilst it's nice and all but vaults are more often then not guarded by a monster/npc and a high portion of items are taken off the body of a defeated foe. Also many DM's simply don't give XP for getting past natural roadblocks and obstacles. In fact the only place the game truly defines just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

In defence of the players most of the spells/abilities they have access to that deal with the exploration pillar have been skip buttons instead of being interactive in nature.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Let's take a moment to see what the differences in what you get out of suceeding combat Vs Exploration, I find this very telling: Combat you get: Not dead Treasure XP Possible ending to current adventure/campaign That particular threat removed Exploration you get: Not dead Make it to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

I wish that a lot of the exploration pillar abilities provided more sideways/interaction ability rather than ignore or roll to ignore. Example: When hunting found various types of supplies for things such as herbs, spell components and weapon ammunition. Rather avoiding battles/ambushes start...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why Don't We Simplify 5e?

Outlander Background: You find food for 5 people is one of the most blatant skip exploration issue that is easily available, I found it appearing in every group I ran for so I swapped it for a back track ability.
