    D&D outside the U.S.

No other swedes seem to have chimed in, so I'll bite. I live in Sweden where we've had access to RPGs and regular gaming conventions since 1977. I started a mail order service for games in 1976 and opened my own shop in 1982. We've had D&D in swedish, as well as a multitude of native RPGs...

    Half Damage and Sneak Attack

The rogue missed, so there would be no sneak attack damage.

A Discussion in Game Design: The 15 minute work day.

Hmm, this got me thinking... How about adding some more Action Points and just giving another use for them? 1. You gain an Action Point after every encounter. 2. You cannot spend more than one Action Point per round. 3. You can spend an Action Point to use an available Daily power without...

    Acrobatic Strike Confusion

No, it doesn't. The shifting is an effect, so you don't need to hit first. You start one square away and use Acrobatic Strike to first shift into melee range and then roll the attack. Or, you could start in melee and use Acrobatic Strike first attack the enemy and then shift away. Move, then...

No 'coming attractions' seminar at Gen Con for WotC?

Indianapolis is at UTC -4 at the moment and you're in UTC +1, right? So that would be 15:00 - 17:00 your local time.

    Monsters and Marked

All marks have the same basic function. You get a -2 penalty on your attack roll against a target other than the enemy that marked you.

    Gaming/hobby scares outside America

I think we were, actually. The devil worship scare I talked about came around 1984-1985. Almost no one took it seriously, but I think this was the first time RPGs got some bad PR in Sweden.

    Wizards' DnD Downloads Dead?

I don't want to be pouring gasoline on the proverbial fire, but I am genuinely curious. J.R.R. Tolkien died in 1973, so even in the most permissive legislations his works will not become public domain until Jan 1, 2024. Or has Tolkien Estate specifically put The Hobbit into public domain?

    Gaming/hobby scares outside America

We did come under attack before this. In the mid-eighties a major newspaper ("Expressen") accused us of being devil worshippers. Never got any traction in Sweden, though. There were also a few earlier scares about suicides, but I agree that the main setback came with Kult and how it was...

Administering Potion to Fallen Allys ?

How do Monster Recharge Powers Work ?

Nope, it's one die roll per spent power.

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

I am amazed that a lawyer doesn't know the difference between thievery and copyright infringement. :erm: This has nothing to do with ethics.

How do Monster Recharge Powers Work ?

Like this. The monster has a chance each turn to get back (recharge) the spent power.

    Magic Missile

That's the Holmes edition. The rulebook was certainly (monochrome) blue, but the box cover was all sorts of colors. The dragon was red and the background was kind of blue-grey. I never called it "the blue box" myself, just Basic Set. I suppose I should find the book and check MM there as...

    Magic Missile

No, it was not. I can quote you the entry in the Greyhawk supplement where MM first appeared. I double-checked the Mentzer Basic Set, and it seems my memory failed me. It was auto-hit in those rules (as long as the target is visible). My bad. I don't think you'll find MM mentioned in the...

    Magic Missile

Can't we agree that "classic MM" is not auto-hit? The AD&D MM was auto-hit, but neither OD&D nor BECMI had auto-hitting MMs. Multiple missiles, though, have always been there. If they wanted a classic feel, they should have given it multiple attacks with increasing caster level and left it at...
