    Tricked Out Warmage Build?

Yeah, no battle sorcerers, and the rainbow servant is open but it's a talk to the judges prestige class -- I'm pretty sure they use the chart's spell progression and not the text. The only possibility I can see is taking Fatespinner (Complete Arcane) after 8th Level. My group tends to dismiss...

    Tricked Out Warmage Build?

Hey brilliant Enworld minds... I'm currently in a Living Greyhawk game with a bunch of guys who are really... really good at tricking out their characters. We're starting Greyhawk Ruins soon and starting up at level 1, and I think I'm playing a warmage. Does anyone on here have some...

    Darth Vader: Alignment

Vader didn't kill on a whim... he killed underlings who failed him, and he killed rebels who defied him. He never went out of his way to kill innocent people that were inconvenient or off the cuff (as Voldemort in the Potter series did, often). When he was angry, he didn't lash out at people...

Looking for a Fighter Wizard build

I've played a Barbarian 1/Hexblade (up to 7th), taking extra rage at first level. With the alternate hexblade feature (the shadow companion at 4th that lowers AC) he's been a fun class to play... not death on two feet but certainly viable.

Can a Mount be Surprised When the Rider is Not?

I'd say if the player has ever used the mount to make a spot or listen check when he has failed it, or in any way has looked to the mount as a separate entity with regards to acting when the player cannot, then I'd treat it separately for surprise. If he never, ever uses it in that way, then I'd...

    Playing a Healer

I would definitely (ask to) houserule the healer to have access to their spells like the beguiler and warmage, in that they can choose which spells to cast from their list rather than having to memorize individual spells. With narrow-list casters it's obviously not unbalancing... I would also...

[C&C, AD&D, oD&D] The best of the old stuff...

In my C&C excitement I re-collected a few things that I'd personally: The magic item compendium, wizard, and priest spell compendiums from 2e. The Arcanum RPG 1st edition -- a lot of class ideas, poisons, skills, alchemy, etc. that can really fire up some imagination for C&C. 1st Edition DMG...

    Creature Collection II

Yeah my Dreamwraith made it in, but its special abilities were 'genericized' quite a bit. It's been years so I don't remember the specifics.

    Planar binding = unlimited wishes?

He was actually responding to my post... and I was responding to the original. Or at least I'm the one he chose to quote. :)

    Planar binding = unlimited wishes?

I guess the original post tipped me off... where the PCs threaten a lawful evil being with death unless he does what they say, with no compensation for his 'gift' other than his life. Seems like a pretty good reason for the efreet to be a 'dick' about it, don't you think? ;) There are plenty...

    Planar binding = unlimited wishes?

Couldn't the efreeti simply grant the three wishes to be released from service, return to its fiery domain, wait a day, and then ask a non-genie ally to use its three wishes the following day to undo the three wishes it made the day before? Or plane shift to some farmer tending his fields in the...

    Critique my Hexblade Spell List

I like the list... while the above posts are true, the Hexblade isn't optimal for blasting, it seems to me you're not completely focusing on direct spell attacks, you just want to mix things up a bit... I think you have a nice range of effects. If you were min/maxing you wouldn't have chosen a...

    The Shadowcaster -weak?

The only problem with an 'extra mystery' feat is that you could potentially use it to close out a path, thereby gaining an extra feat. It would have to not count for that purpose which could be a headache.

    Tome of Magic

There was a thread in the Rules section about the shadowcaster. Mouseferatu (Ari, the guy who came up with the shadowcaster) ended up suggesting a few tweaks that helps out the class a lot. It's worth taking a look if you have a chance -- it gives a boost but isn't overpowering IMHO.

Summon Monster I-IX Is it worth it?

If you use shadow conjuration to create an illusion of an evil creature, do you consider that an evil act?

(PHBII Optional Abilities) Dark Companion & Distracting Attack - Too Good?

Again I don't think it's overpowered for the hexblade, but if your DM is concerned and going along with frankthedm's suggestion and your thoughts wayne, perhaps you can keep the adjacent square idea, but the -2 penalty to AC and saves would only benefit the hexblade, as it is his personal 'pet'...

(PHBII Optional Abilities) Dark Companion & Distracting Attack - Too Good?

As for hexblades... The dark companion looked to me as if WOTC was giving a nice boost to a relatively underpowered class. You don't get it until level four anyway... I don't expect to see droves of players beating down the hexblade door to pick up the ability, unless they wanted to play one...

Odd-Hours Living Greyhawk game in Manhattan

A group is going to start up a Living Greyhawk home game, provided we can get the people required to do it. We're going to start at 1st level with some intro mods and then move on with year 5s. The DM has a few cards for those who don't already belong to the RPGA. To a certain extent, it is...

Familiar dies and is raised. Penalty for the mage?

I would probably impose the xp penalties on the mage until the familiar was raised, then reinstate the experience lost... it isn't by the book -- in which it seems to me that the loss is permanent. Most of the people I've played with loathe familiars because of their fragility and the penalties...
