    Races and Classes--I has it!

Or that they are pushing archery over two-weapon fighting and archery still penalizes you when used within melee range of an enemy.

    Nature Power Source

I think Nature, Psi and Ki would be cool and obvious power sources also. The most interesting thing about it to me is: if Nature is a power source and Ranger's are Martial, how much will Rangers be changing? No more spells seems likely. That's a pretty major alteration (and a good one; we...

How Would You Have Handled the Forgotten Realms?

I choose Reset and I would eliminate Drizzt and anything else that feels like it was written by a 14 year old (which would be a lot). :]

    For the first time... apprehension

According to the book written by Wizards, the reason I gave (ie, Rogues being able to fight all monsters equally) is their reason. The reason you are giving was their specified rationalization to support their reason. It is flawed though. Joints of Golems are not more vulnerable to damage...

    For the first time... apprehension

The best example I can come up with from memory is the intention to make Sneak Attack usable versus almost anything (ie, they are removing immunity from constructs and undead and so forth). Now some people may think "Hey, great! Rogues now don't struggle in those fights!" But all I see is...

    Races and Classes--I has it!

Actually, WoW does have a bird form. But I didn't mean the specific uses of the forms, I just meant the idea of making shapeshifting into a suite of specialized animal forms the primary focus of the class. Originally Druids were just nature priests. I didn't say it's bad, but oh yes, it is...

    For the first time... apprehension

Possibly. I looked at Races and Classes and decided not to buy it (just tonight, in fact). My reading of it at the bookstore implied that they are going very much toward the wargaming aspect which is in fact much more like WoW than I would have preferred. I'm still interested because I don't...

    From R&C: Fighters & Armor

I agree with your assessment that we simply won't have every option in the first PHB. A heavily armored archer is also not a very common archetype in any form of fantasy, so looking for it in a book with ten or fewer classes is pretty optimistic. Note that Fighters will be good with all...

Why are they making demi-humans taller?

Some good evidence, but this is the one part I wouldn't track too literally. Pippen may well mean something like "about four feet" rather than "four feet and zero inches on the button". He could easily be like 3'10" for example, and this would alter the numbers significantly within the range...

Particularly since they are defined as a Striker, so presumably damage dealing will be their focus and I highly doubt they will gain any of that damage component through wizardly use of magic.

    D&D 4E New "Confessions of a Full Time Wizard" - 4e tidbits!

I agree. It will also be interesting to see if it retains its multi-shot element because... I agree with this too. Sleep is clearly too powerful to be a per encounter or at will power. Burning Hands is also probably too good for at will. AE attacks being cast every round would be clearly...

Thoughts on charging for game table "miniatures"

Well, for a monthly subscription fee, Blizzard models a lot of stuff and drives a lot of monthly content. But for them it works because nine million people pay them every month. Still, that would be my ideal: monthly fee = unlimited use of virtual figs as long as your subscription is active...

    Dungeons, Dragons, and Demographics

This is fairly far from accurate. Someone just posted the official WoW statistics in another thread and it's like 1 in 6 female.

    For the first time... apprehension

They should have made elves haughty and distant (see my Melnibonéan comment above) and made Gnomes the ones associated with Fey. In fact, Gnomes and Goblins should be brother good/evil races that have strong Fey associations. Also, Bards should in no way be linked to Gnomes. Where the heck...

    Races and Classes--I has it!

OK, I have to say it. This is so "World of Warcraft". Sorry, it is. Ironically they provide the one example where it seems like Immunity is good. Seriously, killing a fire elemental with fire? I don't care if it's dragon breath, fire elementals shouldn't take damage from fire.

Personally, I think the best way to make elves interesting is to make them more like Melnibonéans.

    D&D 4E New "Confessions of a Full Time Wizard" - 4e tidbits!

Perhaps ironically, I hate point buy because it makes exceptional characters almost impossible. It's just so difficult to get past 15 without hamstringing the character with the point buy as it existed in 3E.

Thoughts on charging for game table "miniatures"

Yeah, since all book layout is now done on computers it's not like they even need to scan anything. It's just save in one format for your printer and another for the pdf... or possibly they even use pdf for both!

I think you're numbers are a little high. I'd guess the core age group is more like 18-27 and it's probably more like 25% female (if that, which is still absurdly high within that market).
