Rock gnomes on Eska are straight up Star Wars Jawas. Drive around in giant crawlers. They are also the creators of the warforged. Forest gnomes are your basic pointy hat wearing type.

I'm in the camp that I don't much care about the setting. I would also toss half of it. To me, astral and space are the same. Spelljammer is D&D in space. The ships are my favorite part. The various helms I can do without. It's all about the ships for me.

Monster HP. Only if it's a secondary monster that was dropped to 1-2 HP. Then I'll just drop them. I see that as fudging in my favor. One less to keep track of.

Rest lengths are one of the easiest dials you can turn to set the tone and pace of your table. I've occasionally used something we called "Quick Rests". Five minutes. You can spend hit dice, but regain no abilities.

This is a fantasy world, and you could have worlds were they don't have those particular beliefs or taboos. "The soul is the defining spark, the body nothing more than a vessel." It would have to be an agreed upon belief with your table, though.

My players interrupted a group of werewolves trading extracted souls through a portal to the Far Realm. Had a new player join the group, and his 5th level monk was finding it difficult against the werewolves, but luckily (?) for him, a couple grell dropped down from the ceiling.
