TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Having read the OP it makes you wonder if it would help if LaNasa knew how to spell... at all... lol. The guy can't even spell "suit" or "memorial" and is putting it on display for the whole world. Wow...

What are you reading in 2022?

The Horus Heresy novels, of course. Right now it's Flight of the Eisenstein.

D&D General What if Critical Role had stuck with Pathfinder? Or 4E?

I'm not sure Pathfinder was somewhat possible either. Paizo might have supported them but not like WOTC. Pathfinder, even with the new edition boosting their popularity again, is too obscure compared to 5E.

D&D General Is there a D&D setting that actually works how it would with access to D&D magic?

That kind of makes things cool, because it's as if there's super high tech devices in the world but only a few people monopolize all the technology. I can easily picture lvl 2 and 3 spell casters being tyrants overseeing small communities.

Is there a D20 alternative to Dark Heresy?

Warhammer 40k is awesome. Maybe you agree that it's the coolest sci-fi universe, maybe not. But do you know what's not awesome? The mechanics in Dark Heresy. Playing with percentile dice makes things so unnecessarily noodily all the time and it's tiresome. Is there a D20 rpg for the beloved...

D&D General Is there a D&D setting that actually works how it would with access to D&D magic?

Lol but there's maybe around .05% of the population which has the ability to do any of that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Nope. Want to add an action? Communicate that to the DM then roll another die. And yes, of course you'll want to change what you're doing. But you only picked a category of action in the first place and can always tack on a new action.

    How do you handle evil?

The way you describe uninteresting evil sounds the same as the issues with a player playing a lawful stupid (incredibly shallow lawful good) character. In both cases I would say that they're not real examples of either alignment. The players are normally good because they believe in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Yep, that aspect of it is pretty easy to handle for any DM who is already experienced with handling larger scale battles with lots of mobs. Whatever you can roll as a group for them you do, saves time for you and leaves more time for player fun.

    How do you handle evil?

Thank you for mentioning that glaring problem with the poll. I've fixed it and people can now say that they prefer not to play with evil PCs. It's fair for you to criticize me for mentioning this viewpoint I've been exposed to a lot when it's not really a thing here. For clarity's sake though I...

    How do you handle evil?

Easy. Enjoy lots of good villains in fiction and apply what you've learned to your own villain characters. You make it sound as if it isn't absurdly easy, and fun, for DMs to RP evil NPCs. There is a player at the table who has fun role-playing evil most if not every single time the game is...

    How do you handle evil?

Are they? Sure, in a cosmic "in the end good wins" sense, but how many stories involve villains that are plainly winning? Let's take Tolkien for example. There are whole periods in time, hundreds, even thousands of years long in which the bad guys are winning. Melkor/Morgoth wins so much and...

D&D General An alternative to XP

I feel, as usual, incapable of determining when people are being sarcastic.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Yep, we keep a Post-It Note visible for this purpose. The party doesn't have to think or spend time they simply play.

    How do you handle evil?

Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, even lots of YT content creators. A prominent example would be the channel Nerdarchy on YT. They appear to think there's some kind of problem with evil and anyone enjoying RPing it. Now the white hat, black hat stuff, that makes perfect sense and I can get behind...

    How do you handle evil?

Really I wouldn't be half as perplexed about how people in the D&D community have portrayed evil characters and people who play them, if they were less concerned with that and more concerned with stating that that's simply not something they would enjoy in their own campaign. The problem is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Ooooh now that I like! A player will feel really cool if they get to use different dice categories.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Yeah. Plus it's not that crazy if he automatically gets a 1 for something because that's only one category, his stacking -1s wouldn't count for as much when casting a spell or taking multiple actions. Plus I'm guessing he had to give up on improving his ability scores anyways, just to get the feats?

D&D General An alternative to XP

Wait, didn't AD&D tie level advancement to something class related? I remember seeing stuff like "if you want to level up as a druid you have to go to your grove and challenge someone for their position", and that looked pretty awesome. Edit: oh btw I came up with my own answer to exactly that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is D&D 90% Combat?

78? Oh so you're of the nobility who don't even see the point of the thief class because "thief" stuff is really just adventurer stuff? Hehehehe man it's wild just how much things have changed. I could barely even begin to understand the edition you had back then, the times that I tried reading...
